Practically all the key figures in the colonial separatist movement were Freemasonic occultists. If they publicly practiced a religion other than that, it was usually philosophical Deism and/or ultra liberal semi-Christian Unitarianism and Universalism. Even then, none were ever known as regular churchgoers.
