Women Too Drunk To Totter Home Get Free Flip-flops At The Taxpayers Expense

The resort of Torbay has spent £30,000 of taxpayers; money on flip-flops for women who are too drunk to stagger home in high heels.

The initiative by Safer Communities Torbay, a partnership between Devon and Cornwall Police, Torbay Council, the fire and rescue service and the local education authority, is meant to reduce the number of injuries caused by 'dangerous' footwear, including stubbed toes and sprained ankles.
The scheme, funded by the Home Office, is due to start next month in time for Christmas office party revellers, who pour out of the resorts clubs and bars in the early hours.

Officers will carry bags of the unisex flip-flops and will hand them to anyone who looks unsteady.

Detective Sergeant Mark Kearney: 'Refusing to Bug Inmates Made Me a Thorn In Their Side'

Thames Valley Police began to investigate Detective Sergeant Mark Kearney ostensibly as a way of silencing an officer they suspected of talking to the press.

In an effort to stop embarrassing titbits about the force appearing in the Milton Keynes Citizen, they bugged his car, raided his house and those of his friends and seized their belongings.

But in using a sledgehammer to crack a nut, Thames Valley Police did not foresee that their ill-conceived efforts would draw in ministers and MPs, lead to an official Whitehall inquiry and expose one of the most shadowy aspects of police work - the eavesdropping carried out on prisoners and their visitors in British jails.

Wind Power Exposed: The Renewable Energy Source is Expensive, Unreliable and Won’t Save Natural Gas.

This is not what President-elect Barack Obama's energy and climate strategists would want to hear. It would be anathema to Al Gore and other assorted luminaries touting renewable energy sources which in one giant swoop will save the world from the “tyranny” of fossil fuels and mitigate global warming. And as if these were not big enough issues, oilman T. Boone Pickens’ grandiose plan for wind farms from Texas to Canada is supposed to bring about a replacement for the natural gas now used for power generation. That move will then lead to energy independence from foreign oil.

Too good to be true? Yes, and in fact it is a lot worse.

Bush Wants History to See Him As a Liberator Of Millions

George W. Bush hopes history will see him as a president who liberated millions of Iraqis and Afghans, who worked towards peace and who never sold his soul for political ends.

"I'd like to be a president (known) as somebody who liberated 50 million people and helped achieve peace," Bush said in excerpts of a recent interview released by the White House Friday.

"I would like to be a person remembered as a person who, first and foremost, did not sell his soul in order to accommodate the political process. I came to Washington with a set of values, and I'm leaving with the same set of values."

'Killjoy' Council Bosses Blasted For Threatening Children's Pantomime With Police Raids

The amateur players in a village Christmas panto had no difficulty identifying the villains of this year’s show - and they aren’t even in the script.
For 17 years, the ladies and gentlemen and boys and girls of Peterculter, Aberdeenshire, have staged a show in the village hall - starring themselves.
Now killjoy council bosses have threatened them with a police raid on the first night of their Christmas ‘run’ - because their show contravenes health and safety laws.

Obama's S.2433 Would Put United States Under UN Mandate

According to David Bossie, President of the group 'Citizens United for American Sovereignty', based out of Merrifield Virginia, website: http://www.citizensunited.org/
The above- mentioned Senate Bill (S. 2433) is a piece of legislation in the works that all Americans need to know about and know now!

This bill, sponsored by none other than Sen. Barack Obama, with the backing of Joe Biden on the Foreign Relations Committee, and liberal democrats in Congress, is nothing short of a massive giveaway of American wealth around the world, and a betrayal of the public trust, because, if passed, this bill would give over many aspects of our sovereignty to the United Nations.

Plastic Police To Be Given Powers Of Detention By Jaqui Smith

The so-called 'Blunkett's bobbies' will be given extended powers, including being able to detain suspects, under plans unveiled yesterday.
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith wants to give police community support officers (PCSOs) the power to hold a criminal until a police officer arrives, impose fines for graffiti and disperse troublemakers.
The proposals alarm critics who believe that PCSOs – also dubbed plastic police – have been brought in to provide policing on the cheap.

Afghan President Wishes He Could Shoot Down U.S. Planes

Afghan President Hamid Karzai said on Wednesday he would bring down U.S. planes bombing villages if he could, in a sign of growing tension between Afghanistan and its Western backers as the Taliban insurgency grows in strength. As Western dissatisfaction with Karzai has grown over his failure to crack down on corruption and govern effectively, the Afghan president, facing elections next year, has hit back over the killing of dozens of civilians in foreign air strikes. In recent weeks, Karzai has repeatedly blamed the West for the worsening security in Afghanistan, saying NATO failed to target Taliban and Al- Qaida sanctuaries in Pakistan and calling for the war to be taken out of Afghan villages.

America's Child Soldiers: US Military Recruiting Children to Serve in the Armed Forces

In violation of its pledge to the United Nations not to recruit children into the military, the Pentagon “regularly target(s) children under 17,” the American Civil Liberties Union(ACLU) says.

The Pentagon “heavily recruits on high school campuses, targeting students for recruitment as early as possible and generally without limits on the age of students they contact,” the ACLU states in a 46-page report titled “Soldiers of Misfortune.”

This is in violation of the U.S. Senate's 2002 ratification of the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Pentagon recruiters are enrolling children as young as 14 in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps(JROTC) in 3,000 middle-, junior-, and high schools nationwide, causing about 45 percent of the quarter of million students so enrolled to enlist, a rate much higher than in the general student population. Clearly, this is the outcome of underage exposure.

Police State Britain: Tory MP Damian Green's Crime Was To Reveal Truths Labour Didn't Want You To Know

MPs demanded protection from a 'police state' last night after the heavy-handed arrest of a Tory frontbencher shocked Westminster.

The Oxford-educated father of two girls, who denies any wrongdoing, was fingerprinted and required to give a DNA sample before being released on bail after nine hours.

'Economic Benefits of Mass Immigration are Close to Zero', Lords Told

Claims that mass immigration has benefited the economy have been 'wildly overstated' by the Government, experts said yesterday.
Record levels of migration have brought virtually no economic benefit to Britain, the House of Lords was told.
Ministers have repeatedly insisted that newcomers contribute £6billion a year to the country's balance sheet.
But an authoritative report by the Lords Economic Affairs Committee, debated yesterday, blew apart Labour's claims that the wave of immigration from Eastern Europe has massive benefits.

Obama Tells Disappointed Supporters: "I Am the Change."

Oh, brother...
Barack Obama told his disappointed supporters who voted for him on the promise of change only to find him appoint old Clintonites and Bush cabinet members not to be upset-- "I am the change."
McClatchy reported:

President-elect Barack Obama essentially said Wednesday that he is the change, striving to assure Americans that he'll shake up Washington despite filling his administration with old hands from the Clinton administration and the capital's corridors of power.

"Understand where the vision for change comes from, first and foremost," Obama said. "It comes from me. That's my job, is to provide a vision in terms of where we are going, and to make sure, then, that my team is implementing."

Urgent Statement By Anti_Zionist Jews Worldwide

Rabbi Meir Hirsh, Neturei Karta Palestine
Neturei Karta of the Orthodox Jewry Or Palestine

How long will Jewish and non-Jewish leaders who claim the mantle of civilization and morality remain silent in the face of the ongoing state terrorism practiced by the Zionist state against the Palestinian People, most visibly today in Gaza, where the Zionists believe they can starve the Palestinians into submission in violation of all tenets of international law, all religious values in general, INCLUDING the values of the Jewish faith???!!

HOW LONG WILL THIS BE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE??

WE URGENTLY PLEA TO THE WORLD COMMUNITY AND WORLD LEADERS TO PUT AN END TO ZIONIST STATE TERRORISM!! IN THE NAME OF G-D!

IN THE NAME OF HUMANITY!

The terrorist regime of the State of Israel has been repressing, expelling and persecuting Palestinians for 60 years, and expects the Palestinians to simply sit with their arms folded while this goes on! Are the Palestinians supposed to be collaborators in their own destruction? Are they simply supposedly to surrender in order to compensate the Zionists for what happened during World War II thousands of miles away?

It is time for leaders with a sense of morality and courage to stand up and finally declare ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!! The State of Israel must no long be granted a blank check to commit crimes! This wicked rogue ethnocratic state must be dismantled and the rights of the Palestinians restored!

We pray that our appeal will find its way into the hearts and minds of those who have the power to put an end to the madness unleashed by the State of Israel, which is armed to teeth with the most sophisticated weaponry used on the Palestinians, and held over the rest of the Middle East as the Zionists demand the entire world surrender to their agenda!

The Zionists know that their state is on the threshold of disintegration, and they are prepared to take millions of Jews and non-Jews down with them!! The world is in grave danger if the Zionists are not stopped!!

May G-d in Heaven hear our prayer!

Will Obama Attend Durban 2 Conference?

One of the first foreign policy issues facing Barack Obama when he takes office in January will be to decide whether the United States will participate in a United Nations conference on topics close to his heart: racism and discrimination.

The Bush administration has indicated that American diplomats would not attend the so-called “Durban II” review conference, scheduled for April in Geneva. The current administration has expressed concern that the conference would turn into an anti-Israel event, just as the first U.N. conference on the subject did seven years ago in the South African city of Durban.

In mid-November, Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni told the United Jewish Communities General Assembly that Israel has decided to skip the Geneva conference after reviewing a draft statement issued following a preparatory meeting. The draft accuses Israel of “practices of racial discrimination against the Palestinians,” saying that its policies constitute “a new kind of apartheid, a crime against humanity [and] a form of genocide.”

You Cannot Pardon a Crime You Authorized

Never before has a president pardoned himself or his subordinates for crimes he authorized. The closest thing to this in U.S. history thus far has been Bush's commutation of Scooter Libby's sentence. Bush is widely expected to follow that commutation with a pardon. Not only did Libby work for the White House, but he was convicted of obstruction of justice in an investigation that was headed to the president. Evidence introduced in the trial, including a hand-written note by the vice president, implicated Bush, and former Press Secretary Scott McClellan has since testified that Bush authorized the exposure of an undercover agent, that being the crime that was under investigation.

Georgian Diplomat States Georgia Started War In South Ossetia

'Georgia's former ambassador to Russia Erosi Kitsmarishvili has accused his own country of starting the war in South Ossetia. His comments almost led to a fistfight between politicians. "It was the Georgian government that launched the military action. It doesn’t matter whether it was provoked or not," he told the Georgian parliamentary commission analysing the August events. "As for the fact that Russia was prepared for it, Moscow was ready to perform the actions it did, because they were part of Russia’s overall plan. I am not saying Georgia is to blame for everything, because Russia was not an innocent lamb either."

Mumbai Attackers Were "Foreign Looking and Fair Skinned"?

Two separate witnesses caught up in the attack on Mumbai claimed that the "terrorists did not appear to be of Asian origin.

Mr Pappu Mishra, the owner of a station cafe in Mumbai stated to the BBC "They were foreign looking and fair skinned"

In a seperate report to the BBC 'Gaffar Abdul Amir, an Iraqi tourist from Baghdad, says he saw at least two men who started the firing outside the Leopold Cafe.

He was returning to his hotel from the seaside with a friend when he saw two men carrying bags and brandishing AK-47s walking in front of them, shooting.

"They did not look Indian, they looked foreign. One of them, I thought, had blonde hair. The other had a punkish hairstyle. They were neatly dressed," says Mr Amir
.
As the two girls fell near the cafe, he saw the two men quickening their steps towards the Taj Mahal hotel further up the road.

A few minutes later, gunfire was heard from the hotel, and much later, Mr Amir heard that gunmen had taken guests hostage.'

These reports obviously raise concerns as to the origin and motives of the attackers

Law Lords Block Police Bid To Stop Critical Mass Cyclists

Police attempts to outlaw the monthly Critical Mass cycle ride through the streets of London unless its route was notified in advance were blocked by the Law Lords today.
The House of Lords allowed a challenge by cyclist Des Kay to a Court of Appeal ruling that the Metropolitan Police had the right to demand prior notice of the ride's date, time and route and the names and addresses of the organisers.
Cyclists who gather on the South Bank and ride through the city to celebrate safe cycling have in the past been handed written notices by the police stating that the event was unlawful because no advance notice was given.
But the Law Lords held that the event, which had no organisers or set route and proceeded on a "follow my leader" basis, was not governed by section 11 of the Public Order Act 1986.

Truman Show Syndrome Delusion: Sufferers Convinced They Are On Reality TV

Some of the spies were from Israel, while others were recruited from the local Jewish population.

Israel responded to the scandal with claims in the media that there was no spy ring, that it was all a hoax perpetrated by "anti-Semites".

Human Medical Experimentation in The United States: The Shocking True History of Modern Medicine and Psychiatry (1833-1965)

The United States claims to be the world leader in medicine. But there's a dark side to western medicine that few want to acknowledge: The horrifying medical experiments performed on impoverished people and their children all in the name of scientific progress. Many of these medical experiments were conducted on people without their knowledge, and most were conducted as part of an effort to seek profits from newly approved drugs or medical technologies.
Today, the medical experiments continue on the U.S. population and its children. From the mass drugging of children diagnosed with fictitious behavioral disorders invented by psychiatry to the FDA's approval of mass-marketed drugs that have undergone no legitimate clinical trials, our population is right now being subjected to medical experiments on a staggering scale. Today, nearly 50% of Americans are on a least one prescription drug, and nearly 20% of schoolchildren are on mind-altering amphetamines like Ritalin or antidepressants like Prozac. This mass medication of our nation is, in every way, a grand medical experiment taking place right now.

China and the Congo Wars: AFRICOM. America's New Military Command

Households and lenders may not respond much because of the wealth destruction from plunging property and stock values, and the deepening economic slump, economists say. That means banks may end up returning the Fed’s new liquidity through deposits at the central bank.

US Intelligence 'Kept Files On Tony Blair's Private Life'

US intelligence officials kept a file on former prime minister Tony Blair's "private life", a former US navy communications operator claimed today.
David Murfee Faulk, who worked at a listening post in Fort Gordon, Georgia, told ABCNews.com he saw the file on Blair in 2006.
But he refused to provide details of what the file, held in an intelligence database called Anchory, contained, other than to say it was a file on his "private life" and included information of a personal nature.

The Disease Of 'Hate' Crimes Legislation

Increasingly, "hate speech" and "hate crimes" make headlines in world media. These are two labels Jefferson and Madison wouldn't have even known. Our Founding Fathers laid a framework for free speech and freest possible action. Crime was defined as rights-violating action committed by one individual against another-not politically incorrect speech or beliefs about a community. That simple, individual rights-based idea of justice is disappearing fast.

Film Review: GenerationRx Documents Chemical Abuse of Children by Pharmaceutical Industry, Modern Psychiatry

Filmmaker Kevin Miller has just launched a shocking new documentary that exposes the crimes and deceptions of modern psychiatry and the drug companies that now control the industry. His film, entitled GenerationRx sheds light on the shadowy practices of psychiatric doctors who are increasingly drugging children with mind-altering drugs. Trailers and DVDs are available at www.GenerationRxFilm.com

The film features an impressive collection of interviews with skeptical physicians, industry critics and even the former deputy director of the FDA. Together, their testimony paints a disturbing picture of the deceitful -- even predatory -- behavior of the psychiatry industry, calling into question the very existence of so-called "disorders" that have been used to put tens of millions of children on dangerous mind-altering drugs that have earned billions of dollars in profits for Big Pharma.

The teen who recently committed "live" suicide on his web cam was taking psychiatric drugs. So was Heath Ledger, the Columbine school shooters and even the wife of famed comedian Phil Hartman, who shot and killed Mr. Hartman in a murder-suicide. In fact, if you want to know who's taking psychiatric drugs in America today, just follow the trail of blood. Wherever there's violence, you find Big Pharma's brain-altering chemicals behind it.

The disclosure came as experts warned that middle-income families would be hit by other sweeping tax changes, despite the Treasury's claims.

Citigroup collapses! Banking Shutdown Possible

It pains me deeply to announce that, despite the massive government rescue, yesterday’s collapse of Citigroup could ultimately lead to a shutdown of the global banking system.
For many years, I hoped this would never happen, and I thought we might be able to avoid it.

Deprivation and Desperation in Gaza

As conditions in the Gaza strip approach a catastrophic level of deprivation, the worldedia, and in particular the U.S. media, remain largely silent. The United Nations, whose truckloads of food and medical supplies continue to be denied entry into Gaza by Israel, appears to be one of the few international voices of dissent concerning the collective punishment of 1.5 million human beings. This, despite the fact that more than 50% of the population in Gaza is comprised of children under the age of 15.

Jacqui Smith's Taser Plan Suffers Blow After Met Police Authority's Rejection

Jacqui Smith’s announcement that 10,000 of the weapons are to be supplied to 43 forces in England and Wales suffered an immediate blow when the Metropolitan Police Authority said it had no intention sanctioning their wider deployment in London.

Something Is Happening Of Historic Proportions

I am a student of history. Professionally. I have written 15 books in six languages, and have studied it all my life. I think there is something monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is just a banking crisis, or a mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes these exist, but they are merely single facets on a very large gemstone that is only now coming into a sharper focus.

Something of historic proportions is happening. I can sense it because I know how it feels, smells, what it looks like, and how people react to it. Yes, a perfect storm may be brewing, but there is something happening within our country that has been evolving for about ten - fifteen years. The pace has dramatically quickened in the past two.

Down On The Farm, A Frenzy Over Free Food

Want one more palpable sign of a desperate economy?
An estimated 40,000 people came to a Weld County farm Saturday to collect free potatoes, carrots and leeks.
Cars snaked around cornfields and parallel parked along Colorado 66 and 119 early in the morning to get free food from the Miller family, who farm 600 acres outside of Platteville, about 37 miles north of Denver.
As this prolonged Indian summer continued, the Millers had decided to give away produce because so much was left over at the end of their annual fall festival. Any day now, a few deep freezes would kill it off.
They expected between 5,000 and 10,000 people spread out over a couple of days. Instead, they found themselves on Saturday morning inundated with cars and people with sacks and wagons and barrels ready to harvest whatever was available.

Russian Analyst Predicts Decline and Breakup of U.S.

A leading Russian political analyst has said the economic turmoil in the United States has confirmed his long-held view that the country is heading for collapse, and will divide into separate parts.

Professor Igor Panarin said in an interview with the respected daily Izvestia published on Monday: "The dollar is not secured by anything. The country's foreign debt has grown like an avalanche, even though in the early 1980s there was no debt. By 1998, when I first made my prediction, it had exceeded $2 trillion. Now it is more than 11 trillion. This is a pyramid that can only collapse."
The paper said Panarin's dire predictions for the U.S. economy, initially made at an international conference in Australia 10 years ago at a time when the economy appeared strong, have been given more credence by this year's events.

This is Change. 20 Hawks, Clintonites and Neocons to Watch for in Obama's White House

U.S. policy is not about one individual, and no matter how much faith people place in President-elect Barack Obama, the policies he enacts will be fruit of a tree with many roots. Among them: his personal politics and views, the disastrous realities his administration will inherit, and, of course, unpredictable future crises. But the best immediate indicator of what an Obama administration might look like can be found in the people he surrounds himself with and who he appoints to his Cabinet. And, frankly, when it comes to foreign policy, it is not looking good.

US Intelligence: EU Will Be a ‘Hobbled Giant’ by 2025

Actually, EU Observer says that Europe will be a ‘hobbled giant’, but it never ceases to amaze Cranmer the extent to which Europe is becoming synonymous with the EU, despite 21 of Europe’s 48 nation states residing without its confines (22 if you include Vatican City, which could never, of course, ‘pool’ its sovereignty with the EU). While the EU may now constitute the majority of European states, 46 per cent have not been absorbed, harmonised or ‘normalised’ (yet).

Global Warming? Bring It On!

The argument propounded by the dubious United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report on Anthropogenic (human-induced) Global Warming (AGW) is willfully fraudulent. The report has been vigorously and critically undermined, scientifically denounced and found wanting from both notable scientists here and abroad.

In spite of this fact, it is likely that the new U.S. Democratic Congress and Administration will once again proclaim that they know better than we do about such things. Get ready for them to move surreptitiously under the guise of Global Climate Control in an effort to enhance their own legacies and pocketbooks. To be sure, the Left hears nothing but their own incestuous voices, despite the voices of clarity and reason that abound around them. And there are many, many distinguished dissenters against the charade of AGW.

Social Services 'Set Up CCTV Camera in Couple's Bedroom'

Council staff are said to have spied on the young parents at night as part of a plan to see if they were fit to look after their baby, who was sleeping in another room.

The mother and father were forced to cite the Human Rights Act, which protects the right to a private life, before the social services team backed down and agreed to switch off the surveillance camera while they were in bed together.

The case is highlighted in a new dossier of human rights abuses carried out against vulnerable and elderly adults in nursing homes and hospitals across Britain.

It comes just days after the Government admitted town halls have gone too far in using anti-terror laws to snoop on members of the public.

Infinite Energy Is The Only Truth

Those who ever took time to meditate on the full meaning of Einstein’s famous E=mc2 equation won’t be surprised. Those who have read David Icke’s book “Infinite Love is the Only Truth, Everything Else is Illusion” will understand my excitement. What until last week was a “theory” has now been scientifically proven and confirmed by the Europe’s fastest supercomputer: at least 95 percent of our “material” world is, in fact, immaterial, a sort of “pure energy” with no mass or volume.

And that’s not all! Particle physics considers the mass of other 5 percent of “matter” being created out of the quantum vacuum by the so-called Higgs field in the form of virtual [New Scientist] Higgs bosons, aka “The God Particles,” whose existence is yet to be confirmed when the Large Hadron Collider starts up again next year. The big deal is that if the LHC confirms that the Higgs exists, it will mean that ALL (!) our reality is virtual.

John F Kennedy vs The Federal Reserve

On June 4, 1963, a virtually unknown Presidential decree, Executive Order 11110, was signed with the authority to basically strip the Federal Reserve Bank of its power to loan money to the United States Federal Government at interest. With the stroke of a pen, President Kennedy declared that the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank would soon be out of business. The Christian Law Fellowship has exhaustively researched this matter through the Federal Register and Library of Congress. We can now safely conclude that this Executive Order has never been repealed, amended, or superceded by any subsequent Executive Order. In simple terms, it is still valid.

Overrated--Romantic Love, Young Women, Sex, Lobster

"So long as the love, even the smallest, of man toward woman is not destroyed, so long is his mind in bondage as the calf that drinks milk is to his mother." -Buddha

I turned 59 last week. When I think back over the great loves of my life--the young women that held me spellbound-- I realize now they were all delusions.

The ladies were not who I thought they were. I idealized them. Idealization is an important part of the mating process but do we really want to be fooled and suffer the consequences? We are programmed by popular culture --movies and music -- to seek certain experiences whether or not they are realistic.

Our pagan (i.e. Cabalistic, Masonic) "culture" regards sex as a holy sacrament/ universal panacea, and elevates beautiful women to the status of angels and goddesses.

I won't pretend to have resisted this brainwashing. I chased women and sex with the best of them. But now that the grip of testosterone has relaxed, I am left scratching my head and wondering why? I have to remind myself about sexual attraction. Sexual attraction is all about procreation. We are meant to marry, propagate and move on to other things. The Illuminati have arrested our development by sabotaging marriage. Thus sex has become a life-long distraction.

Sex plays a major part in the matrix that keeps us in mental and spiritual slavery. Television is constantly enforcing the message that we should pursue sex for its own sake, along with everything that leads to it.

MEP Has No Office In Constituency But Still Claims £40,000 Expenses

One of Britain’s least active MEPs has been receiving more than £40,000 a year for office expenses despite having no office in his constituency.

Rich Countries Launch Massive Land Grab in Poorer Nations

Rich governments and corporations are triggering alarm for the poor as they buy up the rights to millions of hectares of agricultural land in developing countries in an effort to secure their own long-term food supplies.

The head of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, Jacques Diouf, has warned that the controversial rise in land deals could create a form of "neo-colonialism", with poor states producing food for the rich at the expense of their own hungry people.

Rising food prices have already set off a second "scramble for Africa". This week, the South Korean firm Daewoo Logistics announced plans to buy a 99-year lease on a million hectares in Madagascar. Its aim is to grow 5m tonnes of corn a year by 2023, and produce palm oil from a further lease of 120,000 hectares (296,000 acres), relying on a largely South African workforce. Production would be mainly earmarked for South Korea, which wants to lessen dependence on imports.

Media Disinfo: Viet Nam, Iraq, and "The Wires"

It is a sad and dangerous development when supposedly objective news media yield to national pressure to slant the news in favor of the government.

This routinely happens in dictatorships at all times but it can happen in democracies as well, particularly in time of war. It was no surprise that, during the rape of Nanking, a correspondent for a Japanese daily paper wrote home giddily about a nauseating contest by two crazed officers to see which of them could be the first to behead a hundred Chinese prisoners! During the Second World War the Japanese press reflected government policy, and if the government was mad so was the press. Later, when Britain entered the war, a BBC broadcaster named George Orwell lied through his teeth to conceal the systematic bombing of German civilians by the RAF, and he wasn’t the only one.
