Britain has launched an urgent investigation into allegations that UK arms dealers have been buying up old Soviet weapons and selling them on to blacklisted countries.

Foreign Tourists Barred From Visiting Israel and Palestinian Areas in Same Trip

According to new Israeli travel restrictions, some foreign nationals who cross into the West Bank from Jordan via the Allenby Bridge, one of two crossings into the area, are given a new "Palestinian Authority Only" stamp in their passport and barred from travel in Israel.

Many of those given the stamp are reportedly European and US citizens who have relatives in the West Bank.

Scientists in Israel have demonstrated that it is possible to fabricate DNA evidence, undermining the credibility of what has been considered the gold standard of proof in criminal cases.

The scientists fabricated blood and saliva samples containing DNA from a person other than the donor of the blood and saliva. They also showed that if they had access to a DNA profile in a database, they could construct a sample of DNA to match that profile without obtaining any tissue from that person.

Government Permission Will be Required to Travel

Starting this year, Americans will have to get government approval to travel by air. As Privacy Journal revealed last fall, henceforth "Permission Now Needed to Travel Within U.S." Getting a reservation and checking-in for air travel will soon require Transportation Security Administration authorization. That permission is by no means assured: For example, if your name matches a "no-fly" list, even mistakenly, you can be denied the right to a reserve a seat on a flight. If your name is on a "selectee" list, you and your possessions will be searched more thoroughly before you can board. What is going on here?

All travelers will need government OK in order to board a flight, or take a cruise. What the government can allow one day, it can forbid the next.

UK 'Can't Find' £6 Billion in Military Hardware

Auditors have been unable to find 6.6 billion pounds ($13 billion) worth of British military equipment including vehicles, weapons and radios used by troops, a report said Thursday.

The government has ordered a shakeup at the Ministry of Defence after the auditors found holes in its record keeping, the Financial Times reported.

The findings raised concerns about whether critical resourcing decisions for Afghanistan have been taken by MoD officials without knowing where billions of pounds of equipment, including machine guns, night vision goggles as well as spare parts, is located, the newspaper said.

Chicago Shuts Down to Save Money

Public services in the US city of Chicago have been shut down for a day in an attempt to deal with a $300m (£184m) budget deficit.

Non-essential services such as rubbish collections, libraries and health centres were closed, in the first of three planned Reduced Service days.

City authorities hope the move, with workers taking an enforced unpaid holiday, will save an estimated $8.3m.

A former member of Germany's national Democratic Party is to serve six years in prison for denying the Holocaust.

A federal court in Germany has rejected an appeal by the former member of Germany's national Democratic Party, saying he must serve his sentence for denying the Holocaust.

The Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe recently reaffirmed the six year sentence of Horst Mahler.

Uranium Weapons - Does Anyone Care About Our Planet?

We have seen governments and military refuse to accept that uranium based weapons have been used in all the theatres of war. Only when independent tests and conclusive evidence is provided do these authorities back down. We have seen this in the Balkans, Kuwait, and Iraq. Marine Mammals and Other Sea Life to be Decimated

The United States Navy will be decimating millions of marine mammals and other aquatic life, each year, for the next five years, under their Warfare Testing Range Complex Expansions in the Atlantic, Pacific, and the Gulf of Mexico. The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS under NOAA), has already approved the “taking” of marine mammals in more than a dozen Navy Range Warfare Testing Complexes, and is preparing to issue another permit for 11.7 millions marine mammals (32 Separate Species), to be decimated along the Northern, California, Oregon and Washington areas of the Pacific Ocean.

State Department Upholds Blackwater 'License to Kill'

The US State Department refuses to waive the right for private security contractor Xe Services LLC, formerly known as Blackwater Worldwide, to carry arms in Iraq.

The company, notorious for its treating the license as an excuse for trigger-ready atrocities, is accordingly to remain armed in the country until September, The Nation said on Friday.
