Motoring Fines to Rise by £15 for Victim's Surcharge

Currently the 'Victims' Surcharge' is only handed out with more serious fines from the courts, but it will be added to fixed penalty tickets for offences such as speeding and other parking misdemeanours, according to a Parliamentary answer.

Ministers said that they plan to extend the victim surcharge to fixed-penalty notices and 'road traffic offences', an idea first considered by Jack Straw, the Justice Secretary in April last year. This would mean the minimum £60 fine for speeding would rise to £75.'

PELOSI: Buy a $15,000 Policy or Go to Jail

Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.'

Fined Motorists to be Hit With £15 Victims' Surcharge

'Jack Straw, the Justice Secretary, is considering extending a £15 surcharge for victims to those handed on-the-spot fines and fixed penalties.

Currently the extra payment is only added on to fines handed out by the courts, but any extension to fixed penalties would pave the way for millions of people including speeding drivers to be hit as well.'

On-the-spot Points for Careless Driving

Thousands more motorists will lose their licences under plans to give police the power to issue penalty points for careless driving without evidence being heard in court.

Police will be much less likely to give verbal warnings and will instead issue fixed-penalty notices for minor offences such as failing to signal, passing too close to a cyclist or not displaying lights at night.

Drivers will pay an automatic £60 fine and have three penalty points added to their licences.

The Seatbelt Mentality

Apparently, most Americans have it. Most Americans ought to wear their seatbelts because A), they're willing to be told what to do by their employees and B), they don't know how to drive. Of course, if I'm a passenger and the driver makes me nervous, I'll buckle up to protect myself. But that's not what I'm talking about. What I'm talking about is you need to learn how to drive safely and defensively, and cops using "safety" as an excuse to arrest you.

I just got my second seatbelt ticket in a couple of weeks. I'll fight it in court and will probably win using court rules and technicalities, or maybe because the cop won't show for a seatbelt ticket. But then, this cop was pretty lame, so he might show up. I win virtually all my court fights here in California, using their own rules of conduct, which they hate to have to obey. If we all did that, the whole traffic ticket revenue scam would dry up because it wouldn't be profitable.

The traffic ticket scam, when there's no property damage or injury and no victim, is a form of extortion, and the California Highway Patrol is in the business of extortion. These guys are a combination of terrorists and tax collectors, cruising around in hot rods with paint schemes psychologically designed to cause fear, scheming on ways to cheat you out of your cash.
