According to Paul Connett, Ph.D., director of the Fluoride Action Network, "This is the 24th study that has found this association, but this study is stronger than the rest because the authors have controlled for key confounding variables and in addition to correlating lowered IQ with levels of fluoride in the water, the authors found a correlation between lowered IQ and fluoride levels in children's blood. This brings us closer to a cause and effect relationship between fluoride exposure and brain damage in children".'

WikiLeaks Cables: Bangladeshi 'Death Squad' Trained by UK Government

The British government has been training a Bangladeshi paramilitary force condemned by human rights organisations as a "government death squad", leaked US embassy cables have revealed.

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), which has been held responsible for hundreds of extra-judicial killings in recent years and is said to routinely use torture, have received British training in "investigative interviewing techniques" and "rules of engagement".

Details of the training were revealed in a number of cables, released by WikiLeaks, which address the counter-terrorism objectives of the US and UK governments in Bangladesh. One cable makes clear that the US would not offer any assistance other than human rights training to the RAB – and that it would be illegal under US law to do so – because its members commit gross human rights violations with impunity.'

Six Israeli Warplanes Fly Over Lebanon

Six Israeli military aircraft have penetrated Lebanese airspace again and have flown over parts of the country in violation of a UN Security Council resolution.

Two Israeli warplanes crossed into Lebanese airspace over the southern border town of Alma al-Shaab at 9:43 a.m. local time (0643 GMT) on Tuesday and conducted several unwarranted flights above areas in southern Lebanon, including Yaroun, according to a statement released by the Lebanese military.

The jets left at 10.50 a.m. local time (0750 GMT) while flying over the village of al-Naqoura, located 91 km (57 miles) south of the Lebanese capital, Beirut.'

'No Foreign Troops Allowed in Pakistan'

Pakistan has ruled out the idea of any foreign troops operating on its soil, saying it is capable of defeating militants within its borders.

The announcement has been made by Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqani while commenting on a report by The New York Times that cited unnamed Washington officials.

The report had disclosed that American military commanders in Afghanistan are preparing to go ahead with a plan to expand ground operations into tribal areas of Pakistan.

“Pakistani forces are capable of handling the militant threat within our borders and no foreign forces are allowed or required to operate inside our sovereign territory,” Pakistan's Dawn news agency quoted Haqqani as saying on Tuesday.'

The European Commission says the air travel disruption across Europe because of heavy snowfalls is “unacceptable” and should not happen again.

Due to the recent heavy snowfalls, several airports in different parts of Europe have faced problems, including shortage of de-icing fluid.

The Heathrow airport in London, for instance, has reported difficulties in dealing with a backlog of flights.

Although some airport officials claimed that the snowfall was not predictable, Siim Kallas -- the European Commission Vice President in charge of transport -- said that such weather was not far from expectation in Europe and the airport operators should have planned beforehand to manage such situations.'

Six of the biggest banks in the nation have been told by New Jersey's Supreme Court Chief Justice that unless they can prove otherwise, they will have to stop tens of thousands of foreclosures in the Garden State.

A new report discloses that US commanders in Afghanistan are preparing to go ahead with a plan to expand ground operations into tribal areas of Pakistan.

Citing unnamed Washington officials, The New York Times said that the proposal would escalate special operations in Pakistan, opening a new front in the Afghan war.

The proposal "would escalate military activities inside Pakistan, where the movement of American forces has been largely prohibited because of fears of provoking a backlash," it said.

According to a passenger whose flight to Moscow was canceled, airport staff walked around shouting at travelers, telling them to leave immediately. When passengers refused to go after pointing out that they had no means of transportation because all the taxis and trains had been canceled, Heathrow bosses simply turned off the heating and lights overnight and let hundreds of people, including young children and babies, freeze in temperatures of minus 5 degrees.

Nevertheless, l'Istituto per le Opere di Religione (the Institute for Religious Works) is a bank, and it is under harsh new scrutiny, including money-laundering allegations that led police to seize €23m (£19.5m) in Vatican assets in September. Critics say the case shows that the "Vatican Bank" has never shed its penchant for secrecy and scandal.


The Vatican calls the seizure of assets a "misunderstanding" and expresses optimism that it will be cleared up quickly. But court documents show that prosecutors say the Vatican Bank deliberately flouted anti-laundering laws "with the aim of hiding the ownership, destination and origin of the capital". The documents also reveal investigators' suspicions that clergy may have acted as fronts for corrupt businessmen and the Mafia. Record Low Temperature at Crosby Coast

Part of the Merseyside coast has been experiencing its lowest temperature since records began.

A Met Office weather observing station on the coast at Crosby, north of Liverpool, recorded a temperature of -17C on Saturday night.

It was the lowest since operations began at the site in 1983.

The Met Office spokesman described the record low as a "truly exceptional figure given its maritime location".'

Iran Commission Votes to Cut All UK Ties

The National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) has decided to sever all ties with the United Kingdom.

A member of the commission Mohammad Karami-Rad told Press TV on Sunday that lawmakers had voted after hours of deliberation to fully cut ties with Britain.

"Members of the commission brought up very important and serious issues [in their Sunday meeting] regarding a single-urgency motion to sever ties with Britain," said the parliamentarian.

South Korea Starts Provocative Live-Fire Drill

South Korean troops have started a live-fire artillery exercise on a border island, the South Korean Defense Ministry says.

"The drill has started," a ministry spokesman told AFP on Monday.

South Korean Marines began one-day artillery drills on Yeonpyeong Island at 02:30 p.m. (05:30 GMT) on Monday, an officer at South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

South Korea's military will "immediately and sternly" deal with any possible provocation by North Korea, the officer noted, speaking on condition of anonymity citing department rules.'

'10 EU States to Upgrade Palestinian Missions'

European countries have agreed to upgrade Palestinian missions as embassies, trying to push for a Palestinian state, chief Palestinian Authority negotiator says.

Saeb Erakat said on Sunday that Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) missions abroad are a step closer towards becoming embassies of an "occupied state with defined borders."

Many countries around the world have recognized an independent, sovereign Palestinian state, as they have seen that the Middle East talks have amounted to nothing.'

Belarusians Protest 'Fraud' in Election

Thousands of Belarusian opposition activists have poured into the streets to protest alleged mass fraud as exit polls put incumbent president on course for victory.

Early results from Sunday's presidential election showed Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko scored a solid 72.2 percent of the vote, compared to 6.1 percent for each of the opposition candidates Andrei Sannikov and Vladimir Nekliayev, AFP reported.

According to the same exit poll, which was conducted for Belarus public ONT television, Yaroslav Romanchuk of the opposition United Civil Party of Belarus is also projected to have received 3.3 percent of the vote.

More than 10,000 opposition supporters converged on October Square in the Belarusian capital, Minsk to show their anger over alleged irregularities and massive vote-rigging in the election.'

Napolitano Says DHS to Begin Battling Climate Change as Homeland Security Issue

At an all-day White House conference on "environmental justice," Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano announced that her department is creating a new task force to battle the effects of climate change on domestic security operations.

Speaking at the first White House Forum on Environmental Justice on Thursday, Napolitano discussed the initial findings of the department’s recently created "Climate Change and Adaptation Task Force."

Napolitano explained that the task force was charged with “identifying and assessing the impact that climate change could have on the missions and operations of the Department of Homeland Security".'
