'No Foreign Troops Allowed in Pakistan'

Pakistan has ruled out the idea of any foreign troops operating on its soil, saying it is capable of defeating militants within its borders.

The announcement has been made by Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqani while commenting on a report by The New York Times that cited unnamed Washington officials.

The report had disclosed that American military commanders in Afghanistan are preparing to go ahead with a plan to expand ground operations into tribal areas of Pakistan.

“Pakistani forces are capable of handling the militant threat within our borders and no foreign forces are allowed or required to operate inside our sovereign territory,” Pakistan's Dawn news agency quoted Haqqani as saying on Tuesday.'
