Cordesman, a leading military analyst from the Center for Strategic and International Studies, has published a “strategic analysis” of the Gaza massacre.(1) He reaches the remarkable conclusion that “Israel did not violate the laws of war.” The report is based on “briefings in Israeli [sic] during and immediately after the fighting made possible by a visit sponsored by Project Interchange, and using day-to-day reporting issued by the Israeli Defense Spokesman.” Cordesman omits mention that Project Interchange is funded by the American Jewish Committee.

FDA Approves 18 Drugs from Pharma Company Accused of Conspiracy, Fraud

The FDA has approved 18 products for market from generic drug manufacturer Ranbaxy Laboratories, even though the company is currently being investigated by Congress for making substandard products and conspiring to fraudulently cover it up.

"Allegations from reliable sources and supporting documents indicate a pattern of systemic fraudulent conduct, including submissions by Ranbaxy to the FDA that contain false and fabricated information," the Department of Justice said.

Inquest Into 'Troubles' Deaths To Be Secret

Under new laws, key parts of inquests into the deaths of people killed by British security forces in Northern Ireland during the Troubles will be held in secret, without the scrutiny of juries.

The revelation has prompted outrage among human rights groups, who have accused the British government of seeking to suppress evidence of collusion between paramilitary organisations and the security forces.

Anger As Snouts-in-Trough MPs Still Refuse to Publish Expenses

MPs are refusing to publish details of their lavish taxpayer-funded expenses until next summer, prompting accusations of a 'cover-up'.
Commons authorities had promised to release up to two million claims covering money spent on home improvements and furnishings this autumn.
But the Daily Mail has learned that Speaker Michael Martin is expecting to delay opening up the files for scrutiny for almost 12 months.
The figures may be slipped out during September's party conference season when all eyes are away from Westminster.

What the Chemical Industry Doesn't Want You to Know about Everyday Products

The global chemical industry annually produces about 6 billion pounds of bisphenol A (BPA), an integral component of a vast array of plastic products, generating at least $6 billion in annual sales. The value of BPA-based manufactured goods is probably incalculable. Environmental Working Group studies have found BPA in more than half the canned foods and beverages sampled from supermarkets across the U.S.
Soon after scientists Frederick Vom Saal and Wade Welshons found the first hard evidence that miniscule amounts of BPA caused irreversible changes in the prostates of fetal mice, a scientist from Dow Chemical Company showed up at the Missouri lab. He disputed the data and declared, as Vom Saal recalls, "We want you to know how distressed we are by your research."
"It was not a subtle threat," Vom Saal says. "It was really, really clear, and we ended up saying, threatening us is really not a good idea."

Now Iran gets accused by U.S. and European 'officials' (note: NOT IAEA officials) of having worked or planed to work with such detonators based on a 'secret' long brief in Farsi of which the IAEA first only got handed a five page English copy.

FDA Approved Human Medical Experiments with Artificial Blood; Hundreds Died

The FDA allowed tests to proceed on new varieties of artificial blood even though it should have been aware that the products drastically increased patients' risk of heart attacks and death, according to a review conducted by the National Institutes of Health and Public Citizen, and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association."It's hard to understand," lead researcher Charles Natanson said. "They already had data that these products could cause heart attacks and evidence that they could kill."At question are new kinds of artificial blood that do not require refrigeration. No such products are approved for use in the United States, although at least one variety has been approved in South Africa.

Toxic Rocket Fuel Chemical In Drinking Water Can Stay Says Government

The Environmental Protection Agency says there is no need to act on the fact that a toxic rocket fuel ingredient, which has been proven to lead to a loss of IQ and an increase in behavioral and perception problems, has long been present in drinking water across the U.S.
In a remarkable reversal of it’s position, the EPA, has ditched six years of effort into persuading the government that perchlorate contamination poses a serious risk to the public and should be regulated.
Perchlorate, has been found in at least 395 sites in 35 states at levels high enough to interfere with thyroid function and pose developmental health risks, particularly for babies and fetuses, reports AP. The toxic chemical has also been found in lettuce and other foods.
It is used by defense and aerospace contractors in conjunction with the Pentagon in rockets and missiles.

Key 9/11 Witness Commits Suicide?

'The Daily News reported yesterday that Kenny Johannemann - a key witness in the WTC 9/11 bombings - recently committed suicide.

I call him a key witness because in spite of aggressive prodding from reporters about "the planes," he clearly called what happened on the upper floors of the World Trade Center "explosions."

More important, Johannemann reported a massive explosion in the basement of one of the Twin Towers and rescuing someone who received full body burns from an explosion that took place at the base - not the top - of the building. (The Daily News obscured this part of the story in their report today.)

The suicide note purportedly left by Johannemann stated that he had "lost friends and family" over "his drinking" which the letter attributes to his depression since 9/11.Here is the entire text of the note as reported in the Daily News:

"The reason I killed myself was 'cause I was getting evicted and can't handle homelessness. I was also very depressed since 9/11. I've been drinking way too much and it's ruined my life. I've lost friends and family over drinking and I'm very lonely. There is nothing left for me to be happy about other than my cat. Sounds weird, but it's true. I just wanted to say I'm sorry 2 any people I ever hurt in my life. I really was a good person when I wasn't drinking. I hope people remember that. Goodbye!!!Kenny Johannemann"

I wonder if the person who wrote this suicide note bothered to spend any time listening to Johannemann speak. Johannemann had a large extended family and large social network which, according to his cousin Gerald Maya, universally held him in high regard. Maya had offered him a place to live.

You have to ask yourself two thing:

1. Would a man shoot himself in the head because he faced eviction when he had a family and social safety net like that?

2. Would someone as well spoken as Johannemann demonstrated himself to be on live TV, write a suicide note that sounds more like a teen aged boy's text message than a grown man's final testament?

Keep in mind that there are other people, more visible than Johannemann, who are actively telling the same story he did in public venues. You can bet that Johannemann's "suicide" has sent them a message loud and clear about their safety or lack of it. In case you were concerned about them, these eye witnesses are alive and well'

US Court Bans Meatpackers From Using ' Mad Cow Disease ' Testing Kits

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Agriculture Department is within bounds to bar meatpackers from testing slaughter cattle for mad cow disease, a U.S. Court of Appeals panel said in a 2-1 ruling on Friday.
Creekstone Farms Premium Beef LLC, a small Arkansas packer, filed suit on March 23, 2006, to gain access to mad-cow test kits. It said it wanted to test every animal at its plant to assure foreign buyers that the meat was safe to eat.
Three U.S. cases of mad cow disease, a fatal neurological infection, have been reported, the last in March 2006. People can contract a human version of the disease by eating infected meats. Most nations banned U.S. beef after the first case, in December 2003, but trade has been restored for the most part.

The Great Expenses Cover-up: Now MPs Quietly Change the Freedom Of Information Act to Keep Details Secret

MPs were last night accused of mounting a shameless cover-up operation to prevent voters from discovering the full truth about their lavish expenses.
This autumn, Commons authorities will for the first time release details of up to two million receipts submitted by MPs, covering claims for home improvements, furnishings and office costs.
But The Mail on Sunday can reveal that MPs have insisted on having the information censored – and in such a way that could save them from potential embarrassment.

Under the changes, the location of MPs’ taxpayer-funded second homes will be cut out while full travel details – including potentially extravagant taxi journeys – will also be exempt.
The decision to edit the claims was nodded through the Commons without a vote just before MPs broke up for the summer and came after women MPs apparently broke down in tears at the prospect of their personal details being released.
The change meant amending the Government’s flagship freedom of information legislation.

Take the case of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani neuroscientist who grew up in the U.S. and went to top universities including the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The woman who had been a star student and a topper throughout a remarkable career had to leave the United States when the authorities began harassing her and her husband for their charity activities in the wake of Sept. 11, 2001 upheavals.
The family settled down in Karachi and was never involved in any illegal activities. One day in March 2003, this talented young woman went missing with her three children when she was on her way to Karachi airport.
Dr. Siddiqui resurfaced this week after five years in a New York court as a "top al-Qaida terrorist." She was barely able to walk and speak, which was not surprising given the fact she had been recently involved in a "gun fight with FBI agents" in Afghanistan. The U.S. authorities claim Dr. Siddiqui was captured near the governor's offices in Ghazni, Afghanistan last month with a bag full of "suspicious liquids in tubes."

Uproar at Plan to Hold Inquests in Secret

Inquests that are deemed a risk to national security by the Government would be held in secret in future under proposed powers to come before the House of Lords this autumn.
The provisions, under a clause in the Counter-Terrorism Bill, allow the Home Secretary to stop a jury being summoned, replace the coroner with a government appointee and bar the public from inquests if it is deemed to be in the public interest.
It could be applied to inquests similar to those into the deaths of the weapons inspector David Kelly, “friendly-fire” military casualties or Diana, Princess of Wales, and Dodi Fayed. In future, inquests similar to that into the death of Jean Charles de Menezes, which is due to start next month with 44 police officers giving evidence anonymously, could also be subject to the secrecy clause.

'UK covered up use of torture in Iraq'

The British government has tried to cover up the use of prohibited interrogation techniques by British soldiers in Iraq, lawmakers say. The Joint Committee on Human Rights, consisted of twelve members from both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, said in a report on Sunday that British troops in Iraq " had used 'conditioning techniques' to maintain the 'shock of capture' in advance of tactical questioning". Wall standing, hooding, subjection to noise, sleep deprivation and deprivation of food and drink constitute the five banned 'conditioning techniques'. They can be used by interrogators to extract information and obtain confessions from detainees under physical and psychological coercion. The methods have been described by human rights groups as torturous, inhumane, and cruel.
