Ireland Blocks EU's Israel Plan


Ireland has positioned a stronger stance against Israel by blocking a European Union plan to allow the sharing of European citizens' personal data with Tel Aviv.

According to a spokesman for Irish Justice Minister Dermot Ahern, the Irish government had the “gravest concern” that information supplied to Israeli officials could be used to forge passports for use by intelligence agencies.

“It may well be the case that Israel provides data protections which meet EU standards,” the spokesman said.

“But the Minister believes the EU committee has to take very serious account of the forgery of EU passports - including Irish ones - by Israel in recent months,” he added.'

  2. The desire of modern Ireland to catch up to the material status of England and the U.S. is quite understandable. The example and guidance of the U.S. and the EU would lead Ireland down the road of profits and homogenized life, if Ireland really wants to sacrifice it's individuality, and it may. Greed and conformity are powerful forces. But did you people survive such incredible challenges just to sell out? Live, and be Celts!
