ADL to Attack Jounrnalists and Publications Tying Israel to Wikileaks
Last week, responding to a deluge of news reports tying Israel to Wikileaks, Julian Assange announced he finally planned to release 3700 cables from the US Embassy in Tel Aviv, documents previously withheld from the public. In a press release, Assange said he planned the “dump” in 6 months but didn’t indicate how many other documents involving Israel were being withheld.
Veterans Today has been informed by sources within the ADL that, in coordination with Julian Assange’s announcement, they were “tasked” by the Tel Aviv government to begin operations against journalists and online publications that had let to Wikileaks being discredited as an Israeli intelligence operation. Sources indicate that Tel Aviv values Wikileaks as a vital asset in molding public opinion and providing cover for high risk operations.
ADL’s website is loading up with warnings and attacks, all defending Wikileaks and Julian Assange and attacking news sources that print materials either critical of Julian Assange or citing Israel’s involvement in Wikileak’s agreement to allow material critical of Israel to be censored.'

All Parents Lie Declares Starship Nurse
A senior nurse at Starship hospital's child protection unit told a conference of medical professionals that "all parents are liars until proved otherwise", doctors who attended say.
The revelation comes after a Sunday Star-Times investigation into practices at the unit, Te Puaruruhau, revealed concern it is being run like a police station, with staff treating parents as guilty until proven innocent over unexplained injuries.
Families have complained that the unit's doctors rushed to judgements, refused to budge from their initial assessments, and failed to apologise when injuries were shown to be accidental.
There has also been judicial criticism, with a judge saying doctors in one case seemed to have closed minds and had not considered alternative explanations.'

No Recovery Under Rule of Bankers
There will be no economic recovery for the masses of people in the United States. A real recovery, with decent jobs at decent wages under secure terms of employment, is now impossible absent a social upheaval such as the United States has never experienced. The reason is structural, and in some ways, simple. Wall Street has effectively captured the apparatus of government, and is methodically stripping the country of both its assets and the nation’s ability to pull out of the death spiral.'

AIPAC: ‘Thou Shalt Not Recognize Palestine State’
Here is the latest case of the power of Israel Lobby (AIPAC). Last week the US lawmakers passed ‘unanimously’ Resolution 1765 – condemning unilateral measures to declare or recognize a Palestinian state. Incidently, the democratically elected Hamas government has not declared an ‘Islamic State of Palestine’, but Bolivia along with Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Venezuela has recognized Palestine as a “free and independent state within its pre-war (1967) geographical status”.
According to former CIA counter-terrorism specialist and intelligence adviser, Philip Giraldi PhD, Resolution 1765 was drafted by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and sponsored by Congressman Howard Berman, currently Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. There were 53 co-sponsors.'

The UK Inflation Genie is Out of the Bottle
I'm a natural optimist and don't wish to upset anyone's Boxing Day celebrations. Any commentator worth their salt, though, at times like this, should ignore such sensitivities. It would be wrong – reckless, in fact, given the slew of recent bad data – to fail to point to the worrying mix of economic issues the UK now faces.
During 2011, the British economy will suffer from rising inflation and sluggish (in some quarters, possibly negative) growth. This grim combination will be set against a budgetary situation that can only be described as ghastly.
George Osborne was recently in New York, soaking up plaudits for boldly leading Britain into fiscal austerity at a time when, apparently in contrast, America's feckless political elite has allowed the national debt to balloon. The problem is that UK austerity, so far at least, is a myth.'

With Food Safety Bill, U.S. Government Will Spend Nearly $1 Million per Person to Prevent Food-Borne Illness Deaths
The recently-passed Food Safety Modernization Act, which was passed in order to prevent food-borne illness deaths in the USA, will cost $1.4 billion over the first five years. But nobody thinks about the economics of the issue. How many people are we going to save by spending this $1.4 billion, even assuming it works?
To answer that question, let's look at the food illness fatality figures offered by the CDC.'

Monsanto to Fight Potential Lawsuit by Organic Farmer Whose Land Ruined by GMOs
Australian organic farmer Steve Marsh recently had his organic certification status pulled by the National Association for Sustainable Agriculture, Australia (NASAA) because his organic wheat field was contaminated by a nearby genetically-modified (GM) canola field. And after Marsh threatened to sue the GM farmer for the incident -- which has cost Marsh his entire business, by the way -- Monsanto, the owner of the GM canola, came out and said it would legally back the GM farmer "in any way [it] could."
A previous NaturalNews report on the issue explains that GM canola materials blew from a nearby GM field about a mile away and contaminated over 540 acres of Marsh's organic wheat fields.'

2011: 'Dissent is What Rescues Democracy'
The year 2011 will bring Americans a larger and more intrusive police state, more unemployment and home foreclosures, no economic recovery, more disregard by the US government of US law, international law, the Constitution, and truth, more suspicion and distrust from allies, more hostility from the rest of the world, and new heights of media sycophancy.
2011 is shaping up as the terminal year for American democracy. The Republican Party has degenerated into a party of Brownshirts, and voter frustrations with the worsening economic crisis and military occupations gone awry are likely to bring Republicans to power in 2012. With them would come their doctrines of executive primacy over Congress, the judiciary, law, and the Constitution and America’s rightful hegemony over the world.
If not already obvious, 2010 has made clear that the US government does not care a whit for the opinions of citizens. The TSA is unequivocal that it will reach no accommodation with Americans other than the violations of their persons that it imposes by its unaccountable power. As for public opposition to war, the Associated Press reported on December 16 that “Defense Secretary Robert Gates says the U.S. can’t let public opinion sway its commitment to Afghanistan.” Gates stated bluntly what has been known for some time: the idea is passe that government in a democracy serves the will of the people. If this quaint notion is still found in civics books, it will soon be edited out.'

Why Is It So Cold? Should the Big Freeze Alter Our Approach to Climate Change?
However, neither a shutdown of the conveyor belt or a Northward-shifting jet stream would explain the extremely cold being experienced right now in the U.S. East Coast, Southern California, Australia and many other southerly locations. Specifically, if either condition was occurring, England and other parts of Europe would indeed be getting hit with blizzards, but Southerly locations shouldn't also be getting walloped. In other words, neither theory can explain what we are currently seeing.
Indeed, the Met - England's official climate agency - says that the problem isn't that the jet stream has shifted North, but that it has temporarily shifted South.'

Never Again, Gaza
"Never Again" they keep saying.
"Never Again" will we stand still while there is injustice in the world. "Never Again" will we keep silent while innocent people are being murdered. "Never Again" will we turn a blind eye while homes are being demolished. "Never Again" will we close our ears while civilians are being displaced. "Never Again" will we be silent in the face of tyranny and injustice. "Never Again" will we be silent.
They kept silent while Israel, with its "fifth strongest army in the world", attacked the besieged Gaza Strip. They kept silent while Israel, with its "most moral army in the world", attacked the unnamed Palestinian civilians of Gaza, with one massacre following the other. They turned a blind eye as Palestinians were shot dead while seeking refuge or medical help, as whole families were bombarded to death, as fathers and mothers were massacred while protecting their children, as children were burnt alive while hiding in schools and mosques.
They turned a blind eye to the pictures of endless streams of injured flocking into overcrowded hospitals; men, women and children, being carried to hospitals, bleeding, crying out of pain, dying. They closed their ears to the sounds of children crying on TV screens. They closed their ears to the sounds of mothers praying that their children’s lives be spared. They closed their ears to the sounds of fathers calling out to the world to stop this injustice. They closed their ears to the people of Gaza, asking: why, why is the world silent? 'Israeli Prisons More Like Dungeons'
A new report released by the Israel Bar Association (IBA) says the situation in Israeli prisons is terrible for inmates and that the detention centers look more like dungeons than prisons.

Trading Places: Obama Considers Bilderberger Altman to Replace Summers
Obama is ready to name a successor to National Economic Council Director Lawrence Summers who resigned his post in September. Summers worked diligently with fellow bankster minion and Goldman Sachs crony Robert Rubin in 1999 to trash the Glass-Steagall Act and usher in the financial crisis. Summers was Treasury Secretary at the time.
Larry Summers has taken buku bucks from his bankster buddies while supposedly serving the American people. He received hundreds of thousands of dollars in “compensation” from Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Citigroup and Lehman for speaking engagements. He received $5.2 million in 2009 from the Wall Street hedge fund D. E. Shaw. In short, he profited handsomely from the engineered takedown of the economy
Summers may be a difficult act to follow, but Obama is stacking the deck. Possible replacements include Roger Altman, founder of Evercore Partners Inc., Gene Sperling, an adviser to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, and Yale University President Richard Levin.
It looks like Altman is the odds-on favorite.'

The Green Hijack of the Met Office is Crippling Britain
By far the biggest story of recent days, of course, has been the astonishing chaos inflicted, to a greater or lesser extent, on all of our lives by the fact that we are not only enjoying what is predicted to be the coldest December since records began in 1659, but also the harshest of three freezing winters in a row. We all know the disaster stories – thousands of motorists trapped for hours on paralysed motorways, days of misery at Heathrow, rail passengers marooned in unheated carriages for up to 17 hours. But central to all this – as the cry goes up: “Why wasn’t Britain better prepared?” – has been the bizarre role of the Met Office.'

Researchers Develop Reactor to Make Fuel From Sunlight
A simple reactor that mimics plants by turning sunlight into fuel has been demonstrated in the laboratory, boosting hopes for a large-scale renewable source of liquid fuel.
"We have a big energy problem and we have to think big," said Prof Sossina Haile, at the California Institute of Technology, who led the research.
Haile estimates that a rooftop reactor could produce about three gallons of fuel a day. She thinks transport fuels would be the first application of the reactor, if it goes on to commercial use. But she said an equally important use for the renewable fuels would be to store solar energy so it is available at times of peak demand, and overnight. She says the first improvements that will be made to the existing reactor will be to improve the insulation to help stop heat loss, a simple move that she expects to treble the current efficiency.'

The Fabian Society: Britons Want European Union to Assert Itself on the Global Stage
The British public wants European Union member states to co-operate more – not less – on major policy issues including climate change, the fight against international crime and regulating banks, according to a poll on attitudes to the EU.
A YouGov survey, to be released in the new year by the Fabian Society and the Foundation for European Progressive Studies, shows that, while anti-Brussels feeling is still deep-rooted, Britons now want the EU to be more active in meeting specific international and global challenges.
While almost twice as many people (45%) believe Britain's membership of the EU to be a "bad thing" rather than a "good thing" (25%), when asked what role the EU should take in relation to key policies of global significance they are far more positive.
About 71% of those questioned said EU countries should co-operate more closely on fighting terrorism and international crime, against only 7% who wanted to loosen links between member states in that area.'

Kandahar Gains Came with 'Brutal' Tactics
The Barack Obama administration's claim of "progress" in its war strategy is based on the military seizure of three rural districts outside Kandahar City in October.
But those tactical gains came at the price of further exacerbating the basic US strategic weakness in Afghanistan - antagonism toward the foreign presence shared throughout the Pashtun south.
The military offensive in Kandahar, which had been opposed clearly and vocally by the local leadership in the province, was accompanied by an array of military tactics marked by increased brutality. The most prominent of those tactics was a large-scale demolition of homes that has left widespread bitterness among the civilians who had remained in their villages when the US-North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) offensive was launched, as well as those who had fled before the offensive.

It's Here, The Urban Survival Supply List
In addition to my Wilderness Survival List, I have now created an Urban Survival List. While the Wilderness Survival put the emphasis on keeping a small pack, the Urban Survival List puts just as much emphasis on blending in to city life. You must be able to carry your kit in a way that doesn’t stand out. For this reason you must be able to fit everything into a backpack or briefcase.
Often these will not be allowed into certain buildings, or must be left for other reasons, making it necessary for you to carry everything on your person. This is easier for women then for men, as they usually carry purses, which allow for easier concealment. Each item will be marked as either personal or stored, depending on its size and importance. It is important to try to keep your full kit with you at all times, but if you can’t, you still must never part from the personal items (unless they are an item which is not allowed beyond a certain security check. Try to think ahead about where you will be going and what you will be permitted to retain within the areas you plan to visit.
Handgun-personal
This item is essential to personal security when on the streets. Although martial arts and other weapons such as knives, tasers, and pepper spray may protect you, there is no better self-defense item than a gun. I would suggest using a midsized, 0.40” caliber autoloader. The reason for this is that guns utilizing smaller calibers such as 9mm, 0.35”, and 0.38” may reduce recoil, but lack the power to put down an assailant. Larger guns, which use calibers such as 0.44”, 0.45”, or 0.50”, are generally too big to conceal easily and have too much recoil. You will want a cross between recoil and power, as it will mostly be used for close encounters, but possibly for mid-ranged shooting. Recoil is a low priority in close combat, as you should hit within the first shot or two (hopefully you will be trained well enough to hit your first shot even at a mid or long
range), but at mid ranges, you won’t want too much. This means that you don’t need to worry about it to a great extent, but larger calibers won’t be as effective.
You don’t want to be standing in front of a man with a Desert Eagle 0.50” or an M1911A1 0.45” with little more than a squirt gun, for which reason you will want at least a medium caliber, of a minimum of 0.38”. This makes a 0.40” caliber the perfect cross between power and recoil. You will probably want to use a specialty form of ammunition such as JHP and/or +P. It is your choice on the specifics of both the gun and ammunition, but try to follow these guidelines as best as possible. You may want a second smaller gun (9mm, 0.35”, 0.38”, etc.) in an ankle holster in case you lose your primary gun for whatever reason. You may want to carry other self-defense items, including tasers, pepper spray, and an assortment of knives.

Knife-personal
A knife is always useful for self-defense in addition to everyday purposes. A folding knife with a 3-5” blade is a must have. A tanto blade is useful for fighting, and other purposes, as it allows for stabbing and other cutting uses. You will definitely want a partially serrated blade, because it allows for cutting stronger and rougher materials in a saw-like fashion. If the blade is too long it will be hard to conceal, and too large for some purposes, but if it is too short it won’t accomplish some simple tasks, and will not do any good for self-defense, making a 4” blade ideal. A thumb stud and forefinger opener (assisted opener) are a necessity. You will also want to try to get a military or replica military model, including a seatbelt cutter and window breaking pin. You may also want to carry a boot knife and/or possibly a concealed automatic opener.

Leatherman-personal
A leatherman has thousands of uses. Its pliers are unique, and not found in any other multitool. It also includes a variety of tools such as screwdrivers, scissors, can and bottle openers, a mini-knife, a mini-saw, a file, and even a ruler. Whatever the job is, the leatherman can almost always get it done. Get a full sized leatherman (at least 12 tools), made by the original Leatherman company, otherwise it might be missing
important tools, or not be as strong as it is required to be. It is also a good idea to get a full sized genuine Victorinox Swiss Army knife (not one of those tiny multitools). Between the two of these you should be covered for any simple task.

Lock picks-personal
When living in the shadows of the city you may come across a door or gate that is locked, which you need to get past. Lock picks ensure that you will never be stuck or trying to find another way around. It always helps to have a basic pick set. You may also want to have an old hotel card or two for wedging doors, and a few shims (professional or homemade) for basic combination pad locks. For when you’re in a hurry or being chased, you may want a small set of bump keys too.

Space Blanket-personal
Hopefully you will be able to find a warm place to spend the night, whether it’s a friend’s house, an old apartment, or even a vacationer’s home (not highly recommended). Unfortunately this is not the case, sometimes you will find yourself sleeping outside a bar or club just for the feeling of security that is present with other people, even if they are complete strangers. Sometimes you won’t even be able to do this, and may find yourself sleeping in an abandoned warehouse or dark backstreet or alley. Some of these places may be cold and unsafe. For times like this you can thank NASA for inventing the space blanket. It’s small enough when folded up that it can be easily carried on your person unnoticed, but will reflect 97% of your radiated body heat, both keeping you warm, and hiding you from thermal scanners. You never know what might happen to you. You might catch a cold, the stomach flu, or even just a simple headache; you might trip, burn yourself, get stabbed or shot, or even get hit by a car. Unless you are in extreme danger of dying you don’t want to check into a hospital. You might find yourself in any of the previously mentioned scenarios and need to treat yourself. A small first aid kit can deal with any of these problems, but be made to fit in a pocket. To do so include 2 or 3 doses of Pepto Bismo, Benadryl, Advil and/or Tylenol, Aspirin, Mucinex, diphtheria medication, and any other personal medications; a gauss pad; a role of gauss tape; a few band aids; alcohol wipes; tiny bottles of hydrogen peroxide, Bactine and/or Neosporin, and superglue (for closing cuts); about 5 q-tips; tweezers; medical scissors; and about 5 water purification tablets. An all-purpose wrap/brace may be useful also. In your bag you will want to keep a larger supply of these items, as this is only a day or two worth of equipment.
RFID Proof Wallet-personal
When trying to stay unnoticed, you don’t want to be discovered simply because you are carrying an ID which contains RFID. Nor do you want to have your credit card scanned by a third party. RFID proof wallets and sleeves prevent this from happening. In your wallet you will want to keep a Transit Card for busses and trains, a public library card (might come in handy), a debit card with a few hundred dollars (in case of emergency), and one or two credit cards (in case your debit card runs out for some reason). You will want about $40 in cash (One 20, One 10, One 5, Five 1s), along with some spare coins. Elsewhere on your person you will want to hide $200-300 in cash, along with a couple of coins made of precious metals (for whatever reasons might come up). Disperse these throughout 4 or 5 hiding spots (inside pockets, sewn in underpants pocket, under shoe soles, etc.), and carry a second wallet with only a few dollars. If you are
mugged, you can use your proxy wallet to convince the assailant that you don’t have much on you. Even if they discover you have one secret hiding place for your valuables, they won’t suspect more.

Flashlight/Headlamp-personal
You never know when you will find yourself in an old abandoned building without power, a dark alley, or even an underground tunnel of some sort. There are thousands of dark places within the city. A flashlight ensures that you will always have light. A headlamp is even better, as it allows you to retain use of both hands, while still having a source of light. LED lights provide massive amounts of light using only a small amount of energy, making them the ideal choice for your light source. For an almost never ending power supply, you can use a light with a crank and built in generator.
Map-personal
Cities tend to be very large and full of various places that may be important to your survival for some reason or another. It may be difficult to remember all of these places. Instead of simply trying to memorize them, you may want a map, on which you can mark these spots, in addition to various building codes and padlock combinations. With a map you will never find yourself lost. You may also want to carry a handhold GPS, although you will want to keep it in a foil-lined pouch when not in use, to prevent reverse tracking.
Water Bottle-personal/stored
Even in the city you may find water hard to come by at some times. You may find that the only source of water you can find for a day or two is a vender selling it for $5 a bottle. Drinking fountains are becoming rarer and rarer, and are usually not found in public areas, but rather private buildings. For times like this, in addition to disasters and emergencies, it is important to keep at least 20 oz. of water with you at all times. You may want to keep a second one in your bag.
Food-personal/stored
Keep a couple of energy bars on your person in case you find yourself in need of food, but unable to find it. You may also want to keep a few more in your bag along with some other items such as jerky, a small amount of dried rice, and possibly an MRE. Finding yourself hungry is never a good situation, and having a couple of days’ worth of food will ensure that you won’t go hungry in an emergency. There are also various forms of gels and drinks which use natural substances to boost your energy and provide you with nutrients. Make sure you are getting something that will actually suffice – not an “Energy Drink.”
Sewing Kit-stored
If you trip and put a hole in the knee of your pants you will probably want to repair it, as it may look tacky if you are in business attire, and it may cause you to become cold. It also helps for closing cuts and a variety of other uses. In addition to this you might want to carry a role of duct tape in your bag, and possibly have a role of electrical tape on your person. These may be handy in many situations, as the old saying goes, “Duct tape fixes anything.”
Cell Phone-personal
Keep a cell phone on you at all times. If you do this, than you will always be able to talk to anyone you need to, and most importantly, be able to make emergency calls. Remember to keep it in a foil lined pouch (if you have a GPS, they can share a pouch), so that it can’t be tracked. A satellite phone is your best option as it is much more reliable, and will have a greater chance of working in a disaster.
Radio-personal/stored
It will be helpful to have a radio that receives AM, FM, and Shortwave, HAM, and CB. Between these five types of radio you will be able to get the news, communicate over long ranges without being tracked, and much more. Make sure you include a local police, fire, and medical scanner, to ensure that you know what is going on where. You may want a small ear bud to listen without allowing other people to hear. Try to get all of these forms of radio in a single utility that is a small as possible. I have only been able to find the AM/FM/CB, or the AM/FM/Shortwave, so the minimum is probably three. The smaller everything is (even if it includes more than one radio), the better. If you can fit it on your person, do so; if not, put it in your bag. Make sure it isn’t too big either. If it is too big, than don’t even bother wasting space in your bag. You should also carry a walkie-talkie. If you have a partner, you may also want a two-way radio.

Matches or Lighter-personal
Even in the city, fire can sometimes bring comfort, help you cook, or create an excellent distraction. For random purposes like this, it never hurts to have a source of fire. If you use matches, make sure they are strike anywhere and water proof, and if you use a lighter, keep some extra fuel in your bag.

A gas mask may seem like something that no civilian will ever have use for, but in reality, it is vital to survival in the city. You never know when you will be in a large fire, a collapsing building, or even a room filled with tear gas. Gas masks will let you survive in the most extreme conditions ever. Make sure it includes goggles.

Body Armor-optional
Self-defense usually works, but when martial arts, knives, tasers, pepper spray, and even guns fail; you need a backup plan. Body armor almost guarantees you safety if you are stabbed or shot. Body armor often can be worn under your normal clothes without being obvious. Sometimes it is heavy and large, but other forms are smaller and still provide equal protection. Dragonskin is currently the best form of armor on the market, as it is lightweight and flexible, while still being ultra-strong.

They are also waterproof which makes them an affective replacement for ponchos and raincoats.

US Airforce Times: Returning to the Draft, What do you Think?

Do you think that troops are shouldering too much of the burden in Iraq and Afghanistan? Would you support the idea of a return to the draft? Or is reinstating the draft now a terrible idea?'

Grocery Stores Erect Fake 'Farmer's Markets' in Parking Lots to Trick Shoppers
Although many consumers still understand the difference between a grocery store and a farmers market, some chains have taken the deception one step further.
In June, Safeway stores in the Seattle area put up signs next to outdoor stacks of produce announcing a "Farmers Market" -- yet the produce being sold was the same as that inside the store. A complaint by the Washington State Farmers Market Association led the store to rename the display.
Complaints had no effect on Albertsons supermarkets in Washington, Oregon or Idaho who have pursued similar tactics, however. A spokesperson for parent company Supervalu defended the term, noting that all the produce on display was indeed grown locally.'

Haaretz reports that the Israeli Foreign Ministry has officially launched a diplomatic campaign to dissuade the international community from recognizing an independent Palestinian state along 1967 borders and possibly catalyzing the passage of a UN Security Council resolution against settlement building.
Efforts will include "an immediate public relations campaign on the matter at the bureaus of the premiers, foreign ministers and parliament in each respective country" as well as the dissemination of a "legal position paper" expressing that "only direct negotiations could end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and not unilateral actions that subvert past accords".'

Murdoch Founded Childrens Research Institute: Alternative Medicine May Harm Kids

Australian researchers studied the adverse events associated with the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in children and reported 39 adverse events including 4 deaths in those receiving alternative treatments from January 2001 through December 2003.
According to their findings published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood, the most severe complications were reported among infants who were on restrictive diets and children with chronic illnesses treated with CAM instead of conventional treatments.'
