Northern Rock Chief Quits... but Taxpayers Will be Paying Him £82,000-a-month Until April to Do NOTHING


The boss of Northern Rock has abruptly quit his job – and will be paid nearly £83,000 a month to do nothing for the next six months, the embattled bank admitted yesterday.

In a move slammed as ‘disgusting’, Gary Hoffman will enjoy half a year’s ‘gardening leave’ at taxpayers’ expense.

The 50-year-old chief executive has left to take up another hugely well-paid job setting up a new British bank called NBNK.'
