This Time, the World Is Not Buying It

The success of the Bush Regime's propaganda, lies, and deception with gullible and inattentive Americans since 9/11 has made it difficult for intelligent, aware people to be optimistic about the future of the United States. For almost 8 years the US media has served as Ministry of Propaganda for a war criminal regime. Americans incapable of thinking for themselves, reading between the lines, or accessing foreign media on the Internet have been brainwashed.
As the Nazi propagandist, Joseph Goebbels, said, it is easy to deceive a people. You just tell them they have been attacked and wave the flag.
It certainly worked with Americans.
The gullibility and unconcern of the American people has had many victims. There are 1.25 million dead Iraqis. There are 4 million displaced Iraqis. No one knows how many are maimed and orphaned.
Iraq is in ruins, its infrastructure destroyed by American bombs, missiles, and helicopter gunships.
We do not know the death toll in Afghanistan, but even the American puppet regime protests the repeated killings of women and children by US and NATO troops.
We don't know what the death toll would be in Iran if Darth Cheney and the neocons succeed in their plot with Israel to bomb Iran, perhaps with nuclear weapons.
What we do know is that all this murder and destruction has no justification and is evil. It is the work of evil men who have no qualms about lying and deceiving in order to kill innocent people to achieve their undeclared agenda.

Park attendants stop and quiz adults spotted WITHOUT children in new anti-paedophile crackdown
They are one of the few remaining refuges from the hustle and bustle of urban life - the perfect spot for a sandwich away from the office or a gentle stroll in the fresh air.
Except, it appears in Telford, Shropshire, where park staff have been ordered to stop and quiz people using the town's park who are not accompanied by a child.
They face having to explain what they are doing in the park and could be thrown out by park wardens or reported to police if they remained unconvinced.
The local council - which manages the 170 hectare Telford Town Park - says the policy is a 'common sense approach' aimed at safeguarding children using the park and follows similar guidance to staff at its leisure centres and libraries.
A spokesman said only those deemed to be 'acting suspiciously' would be stopped and questioned.
But park users accused it of 'authoritarian madness' and said the ruling risked panicking parents about the dangers children faced from potential paedophiles.
The policy came to light after two environmental campaigners dressed as penguins were thrown out of the park last month when caught handing out leaflets on climate change.
Telford & Wrekin Council said Rachel Whittaker and Neil Donaldson were ejected because they had not undergone Criminal Records Bureau checks or risk assessments before entering the park - a requirement under the Child Protection Act.

US Allays UAE Fears Of Iran War Fallout
The US is planning to sell the United Arab Emirates an advanced missile shield, amid fears of an Iranian reaction to an attack on its soil. According to sources who attended briefings on the matter, the US Congress is expected to review and approve the proposed $7 billion military deal on the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system within 30 days. The THAAD system is designed to defend against short and intermediate-range ballistic missiles both inside and outside the Earth's atmosphere.Read more...

WMD Report: U.S. 'Dangerously Vulnerable'

'The United States remains "dangerously vulnerable" to chemical, biological and nuclear attacks seven years after 9/11, a forthcoming independent study concludes. And a House Democrats' report says the Bush administration has missed one opportunity after another to improve the nation's security.
The recent political rupture between Russia and the U.S. only makes matters worse, said Lee Hamilton, the former Indiana Democratic congressman who helped lead the 9/11 Commission and now chairs the independent group's latest study.
Efforts to reduce access to nuclear technology and bomb-making materials have slowed, thousands of U.S. chemical plants remain unprotected, and the U.S. government continues to oppose strengthening an international treaty to prevent bioterrorism, according to the report produced by the bipartisan Partnership for a Secure America'

NHS 'Should Switch To Insurance'
The NHS should switch to a form of health insurance to better compete with other countries, according to a report.
The study, from the think tank Reform, said two factors were crucial in the "battle for health supremacy".
These were that the health system provided universal coverage and that it had strong insurance incentives.
The report said Switzerland and Japan performed the best on both of these fronts.
These countries are followed by France, Germany, Australia and the Netherlands, but the UK and US lag behind.
For the UK to "catch up", it must introduce more insurance incentives into the system, including giving patients a choice of organisations that offer insurance for healthcare; providing clarity over healthcare entitlement - such as the treatments and drugs available in return for a set financial contribution; and steps to encourage people to take more responsibility for their health.

The ‘Surveillance Society’ Has Led To Many Terrorists Being Imprisoned

'So was there or was there not a plot to bring down airliners? I know what I think. The jury agreed that some of those on trial wanted to commit murder, but couldn’t agree, despite strong evidence, that the targets were airliners.
They have not rejected the possibility, and while the lawyers pick the bones out of the messy end to this trial we can still be satisfied with what the “surveillance society” has achieved. Many innocent people, targets of a group of homicidal terrorists, are safely at work, at home or on holiday with their families.
But the terrorists didn’t end up in prison by accident. They didn’t suffer a pang of conscience, give themselves up to the police and throw themselves on the mercy of the courts. They were hunted down by the most sophisticated counter-terrorist bodies in the world, and convicted by one of the oldest judicial systems.
On the evening of August 9, 2006, I was told that a man connected to the British terrorists had been arrested in Pakistan. This was not good news. We were at a critical point in building our case against them. If they got to hear that he had been arrested they might destroy evidence and scatter to the four winds. More worrying still, if they were tipped off to the arrest they might panic and mount a desperate attack. '

Now will Gordon Brown Follow America's Lead And Save Our Housing Market?
Gordon Brown is under growing pressure to follow America's example and rescue the British housing market.
The U.S. Government's dramatic weekend decision to bail out its biggest mortgage companies set off a surge in share prices around the world.
It also exposed the timidity of the British government when faced with the meltdown at Northern Rock and the collapse of property sales.
A Treasury review is already being held into the way the housing market is financed in the UK.
The Chancellor, Alistair Darling, is due to decide within weeks whether to back an expected recommendation to provide taxpayer backing for mortgages worth billions.

French revolt over Edvige: Nicolas Sarkozy's Big Brother Spy Computer

President Nicolas Sarkozy faced an embarrassing split in his Cabinet today over a computer system that a new French internal intelligence service will use to spy on the private lives of millions of law-abiding citizens.
Hervé Morin, the Defence Minister, broke government ranks to side with a growing revolt against Edvige, an acronym for a police database that will store personal details including opinions, the social circle and even sexual preferences of more or less anyone who interests the State.
Edvige, which is also a woman's name, was created by decree in July to store data on anyone aged 13 or above who is "likely to breach public order".
"Sarkozy's Big Sister", as it has been dubbed, will also track anyone active in politics or trade unions and in a significant role in business, the media, entertainment or social or religious institutions. Listed people will have limited rights to consult their files.

From Skokie to Um-el-Fahm
When members of the National Socialist Party of America (the Nazi Party) declared their intention to march through the predominantly-Jewish Chicago suburb of Skokie in 1977, Jewish groups vociferously denounced the "attempted re-enactment of the Nazi nightmare."And while the American Nazis claimed the right of free speech in accordance with the First Amendment, the Jews and their supporters claimed that their right to live without intimidation and harassment did override the Nazis’ right to freedom of speech and expression.Eventually, after exhaustive legal actions by both sides, the Nazis were allowed to parade in Skokie.Ironically, the American Nazi group never did march in Skokie as its leader, Frank Collin, himself the son of a Jewish Holocaust survivor, decided at the last moment that the court verdict was a big victory for freedom of speech and that this was good enough for the group. The reason I am invoking this story, which took place 35 years ago, is because the government of Israel is finding itself today in the shoes of the American Nazi group, while the Arabs of Israel are forced to play the role of the people of Skokie.Read more...

MSNBC Drops Olbermann, Matthews as News Anchors

MSNBC is removing Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as the anchors of live political events, bowing to growing criticism that they are too opinionated to be seen as neutral in the heat of the presidential campaign.

Obama Slips On TV: 'My Muslim Faith'
Slip of the tongue or momentary confusion? In a television interview today discussing his religion, Sen. Barack Obama stated, "My Muslim faith." Obama, speaking to ABC's George Stephanopoulos on "This Week," was talking about what he described as "smears" that were claiming he was a Muslim when he maintains he is a practicing Christian. "Let's not play games," Obama stated. "What I was suggesting – you're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith. And you're absolutely right that that has not come." Stephanopoulos immediately interrupted Obama, stating, "Christian faith." "My Christian faith," Obama quickly said. "Well, what I'm saying is that he (McCain) hasn't suggested that I'm a Muslim. And I think that his campaign's upper echelons have not, either. What I think is fair to say is that, coming out of the Republican camp, there have been efforts to suggest that perhaps I'm not who I say I am when it comes to my faith – something which I find deeply offensive, and that has been going on for a pretty long time."

Brazil, Argentina to Eliminate US Dollar
Brazil and Argentina have signed a deal that will let the two nations do away with US dollar as an intermedium in their bilateral trade. The agreement was signed by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and his Argentine counterpart Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner on Monday in Brasilia. The accord is viewed as an important step toward a common currency among the members of Mercosur -- a South American trading bloc comprising Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and soon Venezuela.

'Pakistan A Battleground For War on Terror'

'The US President says Pakistan is a major battleground like Iraq and Afghanistan for the war on terror, urging Islamabad to fight extremists. George W. Bush, in remarks prepared for delivery on Tuesday to the US National Defense University and released by the White House late Monday, was to say all three countries "pose unique challenges for our country" in the worldwide conflict. "They are all theaters in the same overall struggle. In all three places, extremists are using violence and terror in an attempt to impose their ideology on whole populations," Bush said in the advance text. "Defeating these terrorist and extremists is in Pakistan's interest because they pose a mortal threat to Pakistan's future as a free and democratic nation," Bush added in the prepared remarks. "Defeating these terrorist and extremists is also Pakistan's responsibility because every nation has an obligation to govern its own territory and make certain that it does not become a safe haven for terror," he reiterated. His remarks came after US forces launched cross-border attacks in tribal areas in Pakistan's North Waziristan, killing at least 21 civilians and wounding 25 others on Monday. It was the fourth such strike in the rugged tribal region in almost a week.'
So i guess this means if you (Pakistan ) won't do something about it Bush will

US Becomes Worlds Largest Council Estate
AMERICA became the world's largest council estate last night after the US government bought all the houses.
With the nationalisation of the country's biggest mortage companies, Washington can now begin painting all the front doors the same colour and filling the gardens with rubbish.
Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson said: "By taking Kenny G and Elmer Fudd into state control the US government is now the second biggest owner of third rate homes after Liverpool City Council.
"He added: "Since the Pilgrim Fathers set foot on Plymouth Rock, the American dream has been about working hard and owning your own home until the government suddenly turns into a bunch of communists and buys up all the mortgages.
"Rest assured we will choose a sickly blue-green colour for your front door and inject damp into the walls in time for Christmas."
Mr Paulson continued: "Now we all know that when the government owns your home you have an immediate and irresistible urge to use it as a one big toilet."All I would say is: do at least try to use the lavatory, but if not, then please sweep all your droppings into the corner of the room and then cover them in sawdust
."Meanwhile economist Tom Logan warned: "If all Americans are now effectively council tenants then it's only a matter of time before they become fat, ignorant bastards who sit around all day eating huge bags of crisps and watching X-Factor."

Revealed: Shocking Footage That Could Prove 90 Afghans - Not Seven - Died In U.S. Airstrike

Shocking images that may have forced the U.S. military to reopen an investigation into an airstrike that killed Afghan civilians have been published in the media.
The grim, eight minute clip, filmed on a mobile phone in the aftermath of the bombing, shows rows of shrouded bodies laid side-by-side in a make-shift morgue. Among them are at least 11 children, many of them toddlers.
The footage may disprove the U.S. military claim that it killed just seven in a coalition air strike in western Afghanistan last month.
Afghanistan claims more than 90 people, many of them women and children, were killed in the August 22 strike. That claim was backed by the United Nations and disputed by the U.S.

Barclaycard Unveils Plans For Paying Using Your Mobile Phone, Key Fob Or Fingerprints
'They were introduced at a time when The Beatles were top of the charts and England won the World Cup.But four decades on and the days of putting everything on plastic could be numbered as experts predict the credit card will soon be replaced by payments made through the mobile phone or key fob.
Like the cheque book, the video cassette and CD, plastic credit cards could be consigned to history in as little as five years, according to leading financiers.
The UK's first credit card company, Barclaycard announced yesterday it was pouring millions into new "contactless payment technology" enabling customers to use even their eyes or fingerprints to pay for goods in the future.'

US-Russian Naval Rivalries Heat Up Over Black, Caspian, Persian Gulf Seas
'DEBKAfile’s military sources report Washington is testing the Turkish government’s response to the permanent anchoring of US warships at either of the two Georgian ports of Poti or Batumi. This would be quid pro quo for Moscow’s interest in bases in Iranian Azerbaijan and the Persian Gulf.
Monday, Sept. 8, a NATO delegation was due in Georgia to evaluate damage to military structure following the five-day war with Russia last month. This is a further irritant for Moscow after the highly sophisticated American command vessel USS Mount Whitney docked in Poti Saturday.
Our sources report that the US anticipates a protracted period of tension with Russia for the following reasons:
1. US and NATO vessels will need safe coastal berths when the approaching winter storms strike the Black Sea. As time goes by, Turkey, which under international conventions controls the passage of naval vessels through the Dardanelles, will be under increasing pressure from Russia to block the waterway to NATO.
Already, Turkey fears it may lose its top trading partner, Russia. Since the outbreak of the Georgian crisis a month ago, Moscow has introduced new customs regulations which have backed up at checkpoints dozens of Turkish trucks carrying export goods. The predicted loss to Turkish firms is some $1 billion so far, a figure that would treble if Moscow continued its unacknowledged sanction up to the end of the year.
2. A permanent base in a Georgian port is seen by US strategists as the quickest way to show the flag for Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili without a frontal clash with Russia.
Washington sources argue that if Russia can maintain a large fleet base at the Crimean port of Sevastopol and a second at Abkhazia, there is no reason why America cannot maintain a permanent presence on the Black Sea too.
3. Washington is well aware of the talk in Moscow and Tehran in recent days about establishing Russian naval bases in Iran: Iranian Azerbaijan on the Caspian Sea and an Iranian-held island in the Persian Gulf.
The latter, if Moscow and Tehran reached agreement, would terminate US naval control of the Persian Gulf waters opposite Iran forces and drastically upset the balance of strength in the region. Washington’s response to this talk is its bid for a permanent Black Sea base.'

Resistance to GM “Exacerbates Famine’

Britain’s former chief scientist will warn Monday night that Europe’s resistance to Genetically Modified (GM) crops is contributing to famine in Africa. In a speech at the BA Science Festival at Liverpool University, Sir David King will warn that aid agencies are causing food shortages in Africa by encouraging farmers to continue with traditional "organic" farming. He claims that 700,000 lives were unnecessarily lost every year because of malnutrition and unhygienic food and water, many of which could be prevented if GM were introduced. "The most advanced form of plant breeding, using modern genetic techniques, is now available to us" says the former chief scientist appointed during the Blair years.

Russia Ready to Vaporize the Jewish State
And then kick America out of the Eastern Hemisphere’s oilfields
During the Cold War of the sixties, the only thing stopping American or Russian psychopaths from taking over the entire world was the doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction [MAD], where a multiple ICBM launch by America on Russia or vice versa, would automatically lead to a “doomsday” response by the nation under attack. Mutual destruction of both America and Russia was thereby guaranteed, resulting in nearly thirty years of unprecedented peace and quiet, caused solely by mutual nuclear fear. About one month ago, Russia discreetly invoked MAD again, but this time in the Middle East in direct response to hysterical Israeli threats to nuke Iran with submarine-launched American Harpoon missiles. Quietly and with the minimum of fuss, Russia deployed its most advanced tactical nuclear missiles and crews to both Syria and Iran, thereby sending an unmistakable diplomatic signal that if Israel attacked Tehran or Damascus with nuclear weapons, Russia would in return instantly and anonymously vaporize the Jewish State. This is not an idle or exaggerated threat. The Russian missile type deployed in Syria and Iran is the P270 Moskit [Mosquito], known in NATO circles as the SS-N-22 "Sunburn", once described by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher as "the most dangerous anti-ship missile in the Russian, and now the Chinese, fleet.” The ship borne version of this missile is launched from deck mounted quad tubes, but since Rohrabacher made his comments, Russia has adapted the Sunburn for submerged launch from submarines, air launch from Sukhoi 27s, and single surface launch from modified 40’ flatbed trucks. Nowadays, western defense experts unambiguously view all versions of Sunburn as the “most dangerous missiles in the world”.

US Genocide/Massacre of 3000 Taliban Detainees
Produced and directed by Irish filmmaker and former BBC producer Jamie Doran, the film tells the story of thousands of prisoners who surrendered to the US military's Afghan allies after the siege of Kunduz. According to the film, some three thousand of the prisoners were forced into sealed containers and loaded onto trucks for transport to Sheberghan prison. When the prisoners began shouting for air, U.S.- allied Afghan soldiers fired directly into the truck, killing many of them. The rest suffered through an appalling road trip lasting up to four days, so thirsty they clawed at the skin of their fellow prisoners as they licked perspiration and even drank blood from open wounds. Witnesses say that when the trucks arrived and soldiers opened the containers, most of the people inside were dead. They also say US Special Forces re-directed the containers carrying the living and dead into the desert and stood by as survivors were shot and buried. Now, up to three thousand bodies lie buried in a mass grave.

No Cash? No Problem, If You Barter
Miriam Brown has always wanted to visit Cape Cod, but when she recently began to plan a trip and found out she would have to pay $200 or more a night for lodging, her dream vacation seemed out of reach.
Miriam Brown and her husband bartered their services for room and board on Cape Cod.
Brown, who lives in New Orleans, Louisiana, is an accountant. Her husband is a home renovations contractor.
Like many people dealing with a soft real estate market and high food and gas prices, they just don't have that kind of extra cash for a trip.
"I have traveled a lot in prior years, but after [Hurricane] Katrina, there's just no money for traveling," Brown said.
So she still plans to go, but she won't spend any cash at all on lodging.
Brown has joined the growing ranks of Americans who are bartering -- trading goods and services without exchanging money -- as a way to cope with tough economic times.
Brown posted an ad in the barter section of the online community Craigslist last month, offering to trade her accounting skills and her husband's knack for home repairs in exchange for room and board on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
She has lots of company.

Why Team Games May Make Your Children Fat
'Highly competitive team sports in school discourage many children from taking part in extracurricular physical activity and undermine efforts to curb Britain's record teenage obesity rates, a study suggests.
Under the national curriculum, secondary schools are supposed to use PE lessons to teach children how to lead physically active lives with the aim of promoting lifelong participation in healthy exercise.
The report suggests that non-competitive lifestyle activities, such as aerobics, Pilates, hill walking, stretching and toning routines should be encouraged. Even videos such as Supersize Me, which underlines the dangers of excessive consumption of junk food, are recognised as a valuable part of the PE lesson. '

Terror Groups Developing 'Dirty Bomb', Say Security Chiefs

'They are exploiting the political chaos in Pakistan in a bid to acquire nuclear material for a 'spectacular' attack.
At least one plot has been uncovered involving Pakistani-based terrorists planning to use nuclear material against a major European target.
Osama bin Laden's al-Qa'eda terror group, whose terrorist infrastructure is based in the province of Waziristan in northwest Pakistan, is known to be trying to acquire nuclear technology to use in terror attacks against the West.
Other militant Islamist groups in Pakistan, such as the newly formed Pakistani Taliban, have also shown an interest in developing weapons with a nuclear capability, according to Western security officials.
Security chiefs fear the mounting political instability in Pakistan will make it easier for militant Islamist groups to develop a primitive nuclear device.
Pakistan is the world's only Muslim country with a nuclear weapons arsenal, which was developed during the 1990s by the rogue Pakistani nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadir (AQ) Khan.'

The Penn Resiliency Programme is the brainchild of Professor Martin Seligman, a U.S. expert in positive psychology.
In the lessons, 11-year-olds are taught how to cope with difficult situations and emotions and to develop positive attitudes, assertiveness, aspirations and a better approach to decision making.
They are encouraged not to think or react like Chicken Little, the hen in the fable who wrongly feared the sky was falling in.
It is hoped that the classes will equip youngsters better to cope with the challenges of adulthood.

£1million Pay Rise On The Way Or Boss Of British Gas As 16 Million Of Their Customers Face Huge Bill Rises

'The boss of British Gas's parent firm could see his pay soar by £1million this year as millions face huge bill rises.
Sam Laidlaw, chief executive of Centrica, is expected to get a seven-figure increase in his pay, bonus and shares package.
The rise will be a blow for 16million British Gas customers who face a 35 per cent rise in charges.
He is one of several executives at the firm who could see earnings rocket, including British Gas managing director Philip Bentley.
Mr Laidlaw's total package is likely to top £2.8million, more than £1million ahead of last year.
In theory, he could earn £4.8million if Centrica hits profit and performance targets.
It made a profit of almost £1billion in the first half of this year and is likely to increase this in the second six months'

Night Curfew On Children Brings Anti-Social Behaviour Down By 15 per cent

Campaigners have called for a night curfew for children to be extended across Britain after a trial scheme saw crime plunge by 15 per cent.
They said that since Operation Goodnight was introduced around a month ago, there has been a dramatic fall in anti-social behaviour in Redruth, Cornwall.
Police asked 600 parents to ensure all children under 16 were indoors by 9pm and those aged ten and under at home by 8pm.
In the following month 106 crimes were recorded, a fall of 15 on the same period last year.

Britain's housing plan smells like Ponzi: James Saft
'Britain's plan to cut taxes and offer incentives to first-time buyers is sure to fail and smells a bit of Ponzi.
Britain this week announced a 1 billion pound package of measures including eliminating a 1 percent tax paid by buyers of houses costing less than 175,000 pounds and a program to give interest-free 30 percent down payment loans to first-time buyers with moderate incomes.
Ponzi schemes, called after a famous fraudster, attempt to use the money of new investors to pay unsustainably high returns to existing ones, but at their heart have no actual business or productive enterprise.
While by no means a fraud, the plan will in effect suck money from those not on the housing ladder or at its bottom to support those further up, as well, significantly, as the banks who've loaned them money. The plan also meets the Ponzi test in that it is an attempt to keep an overdeveloped and underproductive sector of the economy going.
It would be far better to acknowledge that British housing prices are much too high and likely to fall substantially from here, and to try to do what little can be done to soften the side effects.'

9/11 Accomplices vie for US Presidency
In his much-ballyhooed acceptance speech, Barack Obama declared that he would "finish the fight against the terrorists who actually attacked us on 9/11." If Obama wishes to be true to his promise, he could begin with his own running mate, Senator Joe Biden.
Biden and the ISI chief
Biden was one of several top Washington officials who met with Lieutenant General Mahmoud Ahmad, the head of Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), on and around September 11, 2001.
The ISI is a foreign branch of the CIA. "Al-Qaeda" is a covert operation that is managed by Anglo-American military-intelligence. Ahmad, the "9/11 money man" who delivered funds to alleged lead suicide hijacker Mohammed Atta prior to the attacks, met personally with Biden on September 13, 2001.
This case, detailed in Michel Chossodovsky’s Political Deception: Missing Link Behind 9/11, remains one of hundreds of smoking guns revealing direct US connections to 9/11, for which Biden has never provided a credible explanation.
At the same time that he was meeting with a man directly connected to the alleged hijackers, Biden was among the loudest and most bellicose voices joining Bush-Cheney for the bombing of Afghanistan in retaliation for 9/11. Biden expressed an interest in "personally shooting Osama bin Laden." Not surprisingly, John McCain expressed the same post-9/11 bloodlust, in his infamous editorial, "War is hell. Let’s get on with it."

Dick Cheney Wants War on Russia

'The gall of this man and other members of the Bush administration seem to have no limits. Is it really possible that anyone can take his remarks seriously when he accuses Russia of "bullying others"? Are we supposed to believe that the illegal invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq are nothing more than a friendly helping hand? Is the pressure and sanctions being applied to Iran not "bullying"? And what about the recent trips into Pakistan´s sovereign territory to kill some more civilians, what are we supposed to call that? Most of the comments that Cheney made at a global security conference in Cernobbio, Italy, seemed to be describing the Bush administrations crimes, not Russia´s. Is he getting a little confused over which country is doing what? '

PEOPLE WHO KNOW HOW TO F*CKING PARK ON BRINK OF EXTINCTION
DRIVERS who can position their car in the middle of a parking space at a supermarket are sliding closer to extinction, conservationists have warned.
Research teams have recorded a sharp decline in numbers over the last decade, despite strenuous efforts to educate the public about how easy it is to just put your fucking car in the middle of a parking space.
Dr Tom Logan, head of species protection at the WWF, said: "There is a series of white lines separated by spaces roughly the same width as a car, plus a little bit more.
Let's think of that as the first Great Big Fucking Clue shall we?
"As we approach, we then have to ask ourselves: 'do I park on the white line, do I straddle the white line or do I get my huge, chocolate-covered face out of my fat, greedy, unwashed arse and just put the car in the middle of the fucking space?''
Conservationists have blamed the crisis on a combination of poaching, loss of habitat and an unbelievable selfishness by a bunch of total and complete bastards who deserve to die on a spike.
"There are now less than 50 people in the UK who are able to do this," said Dr Logan.
"That's not just a tragedy for our planet, it's doing my fucking head in every time I go to Homebase.
"WWF warned that drivers who can park in the middle of a space will soon share the fate of people who knew not to park four feet from the kerb, extinct since 1993.
Dr Logan added: "A fucking mountain gorilla could do this with its eyes shut, but for some reason the average British motorist seems to think every car park in the world was made just for them.
"Or maybe they've heard that if they park on the white line Graham-fucking- Norton is going to jump out from behind a bottle-bank and send them on holiday to Orlando.
"Anyway, the point is we need more money."

UN Says Eat Less Meat To Curb Global Warming

'People should have one meat-free day a week if they want to make a personal and effective sacrifice that would help tackle climate change, the world's leading authority on global warming has told The Observer
Dr Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which last year earned a joint share of the Nobel Peace Prize, said that people should then go on to reduce their meat consumption even further.
His comments are the most controversial advice yet provided by the panel on how individuals can help tackle global warning.
Pachauri, who was re-elected the panel's chairman for a second six-year term last week, said diet change was important because of the huge greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental problems - including habitat destruction - associated with rearing cattle and other animals. It was relatively easy to change eating habits compared to changing means of transport, he said.
The UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation has estimated that meat production accounts for nearly a fifth of global greenhouse gas emissions. These are generated during the production of animal feeds, for example, while ruminants, particularly cows, emit methane, which is 23 times more effective as a global warming agent than carbon dioxide. The agency has also warned that meat consumption is set to double by the middle of the century.'

Official Israeli radio bans ad critical of Gaza siege
The Israeli national broadcasting Authority has refused to allow radio stations in Israel to air ads sponsored by Israeli peace groups that criticize Israel's 15-month long siege on the Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip. The siege, which is in direct violation of the responsibilities of an occupying power under the Fourth Geneva Convention (signed by Israel in 1953), affects 1.4 million civilians in Gaza – forcing them to live in dire poverty without access to proper medical care, and with chronic shortages of food and fuel. Nearly 150 patients have died due to the Israeli siege, when Israeli authorities refused to allow them to exit the Gaza Strip for needed medical treatment.New radio ads produced by the Israeli peace group, Gisha, point out one often-forgotten piece of the siege: the hundreds of students enrolled in universities abroad, who will experience serious setbacks in their education due to being imprisoned in the Gaza Strip and unable to return to school.Palestinian analysts often point out that these young people represent the best and brightest of the Gazan population, and by preventing them from going to university, Israel is fomenting the very extremism that the siege is supposedly trying to punish. These analysts argue that the students who study abroad tend to have a moderating effect on the population, and by imprisoning them, Israel is creating worse problems for themselves than before.

Pakistan Reopens Vital Border For NATO
'Pakistan has reopened a vital supply route to NATO forces in Afghanistan after receiving a payment of $365 million from the US. Pakistan's Defense Minister, Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, said the border route had been closed in response to recent raids by US-led forces inside Pakistani territory, which violated the sovereignty of the country. Mukhtar added that the closure demonstrated to the US that Islamabad would not tolerate airstrikes and raids inside its borders. On Friday, Pakistan stopped trucks from crossing the Torkham border crossing. They were carrying fuel and other supplies to US-led NATO forces inside Afghanistan. The action followed US-led attacks that killed at least 20 Pakistani civilians in tribal areas bordering Afghanistan. According to reports, the US paid $365 million to Pakistan as funding for the war on terror immediately after the closure of the border. The border was subsequently reopened.'

Venezuela to host Russia navy exercise in Caribbean
Several Russian ships and 1,000 soldiers will take part in joint naval maneuvers with Venezuela in the Caribbean Sea later this year, exercises likely to increase diplomatic tensions with Washington, a pro-government newspaper reported on Saturday.
Quoting Venezuela's naval intelligence director, Salbarore Cammarata, the newspaper Vea said four Russian boats would visit Venezuelan waters from November 10 to 14.
Plans for the naval operations come at a time of heightened diplomatic tension and Cold War-style rhetoric between Moscow and the United States over the recent war in Georgia and plans for a U.S. missile defense system in the Czech Republic and Poland.

Obama, McCain to Appear At Ground Zero on 9/11
Presidential nominees John McCain and Barack Obama will appear together on Sept. 11 in New York at the site where the World Trade Center collapsed after being hit by hijacked planes in 2001."All of us came together on 9/11 -- not as Democrats or Republicans -- but as Americans. In smoke-filled corridors and on the steps of the Capitol; at blood banks and at vigils -- we were united as one American family," the two senators said in a joint statement issued on Saturday.
"On Thursday, we will put aside politics and come together to renew that unity, to honor the memory of each and every American who died, and to grieve with the families and friends who lost loved ones."

Call For 'Black Schools'

A controversial race relations campaigner has called for the creation of "black schools" to "stem the avalanche of educational failure and the descent into violent gang culture".
Lee Jasper, who advised former London Mayor Ken Livingstone on equalities, said it was time the black community ran its own schools, with black teachers and black governors.
He said black schools and colleges could prove to be a "beacon of excellence" for the black community.
Mr Jasper said Jewish, Muslim and Hindu communities already had their own schools. And he accused the "liberal community" of dismissing the idea of black schools, while failing to address "institutional racism" within education.

Government paid charity to produce eco-town 'fact' leaflets
Gordon Brown's eco-towns scheme was embroiled in new controversy last night as a housing charity admitted it had been paid to produce information leaflets setting out the Government's case.
Shelter, one of the few organisations backing the plan to build new towns in the English countryside, said it had been given £100,000 by the Government to publish a series of 13 pamphlets, one for each proposed eco-town site.
Called "Eco-town – the facts", the publications are branded with the Shelter logo and claim to assess the impact the new homes will have in the different areas. Each one begins: "Shelter has written a series of leaflets to help clarify the facts."
But each 20-page leaflet focuses largely on the need for more affordable housing, with only one paragraph addressing such concerns as traffic levels, flood risks and pressure on public serices.
Opponents called the leaflets "Government propaganda" and accused ministers of trying to mislead the public into thinking the information came from an independent source.

Lord Winston To Farm Genetically Modified Pigs For Human Transplants
'Lord Winston, the fertility expert and Labour peer, is to begin breeding genetically modified pigs in the next three months to produce hearts, livers and kidneys for transplanting to humans.
Winston has pioneered a simplified technique to create pigs with “humanised” organs that will not be rejected by the patients’ immune systems.
He expects the technique to provide a solution to the shortage of donor organs within 10 years. Attempts to transplant animal organs – xenotrans-plantation – were abandoned because the tissue was rejected and because of fears that animal viruses would spread to humans. Enthusiasm for the procedure waned in the late 1990s after patient deaths.'

Council Use Anti-Terror Laws To Spy On Binmen Accused Of 'Accepting Strawberry Pop Bribe To Take Away Trade Waste'
A council used controversial anti-terror laws to spy on a crew of refuse collectors after receiving a tip-off that they were incorrectly emptying a dustbin.Officials set up an undercover surveillance operation in an attempt to prove the three binmen were being bribed by a newsagent to take away trade waste when he had not paid the extra fee for it to be collected.
Bury Council in Greater Manchester said the investigation proved that the men had removed trade waste - and it also claimed they had used their refuse truck for ‘pecuniary gain’ because one accepted a bottle of strawberry-flavoured mineral water from the shopkeeper.
As a result, the refuse collectors, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were suspended on full pay for ten months and then sacked.
But now they have won more than £100,000 between them in an out-of-court settlement after claiming unfair dismissal.
One of the collectors said: ‘I thought the law allowing secret filming was to help protect us from terrorists - not for filming three binmen who might have made a mistake by collecting an extra bin or accepting a bottle of pop.’
The episode is just the latest example of town halls using the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) - introduced in 2000 ‘in the interests of national security’ - to investigate trivial offences.

Record bail-out in US of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

THE US TREASURY will today announce a rescue of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, two giant American mortgage banks, in what is likely to be the biggest financial bail-out of recent history.
The move may trigger a bounce in global stock markets tomorrow. However, analysts warn that some of the uncertainties that plagued the markets last week, including worries over the duration of the credit crunch, will persist.
Henry Paulson, the US Treasury secretary, is believed to have told the chief executives of the two government-sponsored enterprises - Fannie Mae’s Daniel Mudd and Freddie Mac’s Richard Syron - that they will lose their jobs when the two firms, which control about 75% of the US mortgage market, are put into “conservatorship” today.
The boards of both Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have been attempting to resist moves by the Treasury that would wipe out shareholders.
Paulson, however, is said to be keen to ensure any support for the companies comes at a price. The US government’s cash injection is expected to be between $15 billion (£8.5 billion) and $20 billion.

You the taxpayer gives the US government your hard earned cash, $20 billion
They buy the mortgages on your house.

M&C Saatchi will begin the campaign with TV adverts and posters explaining the cards’ ‘benefits’ to a sceptical public.

The clause also reflects the Bush Administration view that any agreement with the Iraqi government would be a bilateral executive agreement between two countries and would not be a matter of discussion in Congress.
