Brazil and Argentina have signed a deal that will let the two nations do away with US dollar as an intermedium in their bilateral trade. The agreement was signed by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and his Argentine counterpart Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner on Monday in Brasilia. The accord is viewed as an important step toward a common currency among the members of Mercosur -- a South American trading bloc comprising Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and soon Venezuela.

Kissinger: Nuclear Iran to change world

Former US secretary of state, Henry Kissinger, has stated that a future with a nuclear armed Iran would represent a change in the world order. "Nuclear weapons in Iran will change the international situation fundamentally," Kissinger said in an interview with Fox News. "It means that proliferation is likely to be unchecked after that, that there would be many more countries that have nuclear weapons that might be used against each other and against us, and that terrorists might be protected by countries that have nuclear weapons. That is the fundamental change that comes about," he added. "So, therefore, what America needs to do is to determine, together with its allies, if at all possible, when the point of no return is reached, secondly, what non-military measures can be taken to induce Iran to enter a meaningful negotiation, and, third, then to face the question of what other means have to be used," Kissinger said.

Every Petrol Pump 'Will be Prepay by 2011'

Every petrol pump in Britain will be prepay by 2011 because of the rise in fuel theft, say industry bosses.
The soaring cost of unleaded and diesel has seen an increase in instances of people driving off from forecourts without paying.
Petrol retailers say their fuel theft bill has risen by several million pounds.

The prepay system, where drivers have to swipe a debit or credit card at the pump before they can get any petrol, is already used widely in the U.S.

The amount the driver has spent is automatically deducted from the swiped card, making it impossible not to pay for filling up.
Some UK forecourts already have the prepay system, particularly those at supermarkets.
Petrol stations will still be manned by staff selling items from the shop, such as sweets, sandwiches and road maps.
Britain has not rushed to introduce the system because around one in three drivers still pay in cash.

That document was thick, and it would have taken months and months to prepare it, yet it came out shortly after the 9/11 attacks.Why does combating terrorism require an assault on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights? It was clear to me that there was an undeclared agenda there.On the day of 9/11, I knew right away that something was wrong. I had been an engineering student at Georgia Tech, and things just didn’t add up. As I watched the towers fall, I could see that the buildings were blowing up from the top, at least initially. The airplanes caused asymmetrical damage, and I don’t think the planes were large enough to cause the buildings to topple. When you chop a tree down, it doesn’t blow up, it falls.The buildings were blowing up, not falling down.Then when I saw pictures of the alleged terrorists, most of them looked just like kids. They were small, and airplane passengers wouldn’t have hesitated to try to take them down. The average American male should have been able to take care of the hijackers. And how they could have fooled all of the intelligence agencies, outwit NORAD, and so on; it just didn’t make any sense. They were really after our civil liberties. That was their undeclared agenda. The American-armed and trained Georgian army swarmed into South Ossetia last Thursday, killing an estimated 2,000 civilians, sending 40,000 South Ossetians fleeing over the Russian border, and destroying much of the capital, Tskhinvali. The attack was unprovoked and took place a full 24 hours before even ONE Russian soldier set foot in South Ossetia. Nevertheless, the vast majority of Americans still believe that the Russian army invaded Georgian territory first. The BBC, AP, NPR, the New York Times and the rest of the establishment media has consistently and deliberately misled its readers into believing that the violence in South Ossetia was initiated by the Kremlin. Let's be clear, it wasn't. In truth, there is NO dispute about the facts except among the people who rely the western press for their information. Despite its steady loss of credibility, the corporate media continues to operate as the propaganda-arm of the Pentagon.Former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev gave a good summary of events in an op-ed in Monday's Washington Post:"For some time, relative calm was maintained in South Ossetia. The peacekeeping force composed of Russians, Georgians and Ossetians fulfilled its mission, and ordinary Ossetians and Georgians, who live close to each other, found at least some common ground....What happened on the night of Aug. 7 is beyond comprehension. The Georgian military attacked the South Ossetian capital of Tskhinvali with multiple rocket launchers designed to devastate large areas....Mounting a military assault against innocents was a reckless decision whose tragic consequences, for thousands of people of different nationalities, are now clear. The Georgian leadership could do this only with the perceived support and encouragement of a much more powerful force. Georgian armed forces were trained by hundreds of U.S. instructors, and its sophisticated military equipment was bought in a number of countries. This, coupled with the promise of NATO membership, emboldened Georgian leaders into thinking that they could get away with a "blitzkrieg" in South Ossetia...Russia had to respond. To accuse it of aggression against "small, defenseless Georgia" is not just hypocritical but shows a lack of humanity." You wouldn't congregate with people," said researcher Stephen Eubank. "You'd pretty much be staying home with the doors and windows battened down."The consensus among health experts is that a pandemic, or global epidemic, of influenza is inevitable. The last such pandemic, in 1918, killed between 40 and 100 million people.Because of the belief that a pandemic cannot be avoided, researchers are instead looking into ways to limit its effects. In the current study, researchers used a computer to model the hypothetical spread of flu pandemic in the city of Chicago under various containment scenarios. They found that a vigorous early response could reduce the infection rate by 80 percent."Depending on how fast it is spreading, it seems as though you really need to throw everything you can at it," Eubank said.Under the containment scenario, people infected with or exposed to the disease would be confined to their homes, and schools and day-care centers would be shut down, as would places of public gathering like bars, restaurants and theaters. The plan involves some high-tech tracking that is coming under fire from some groups. New York City is going to great lengths to make sure that bomb-toting terrorists can't reach us. "New York City is something special," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Tuesday. "It's not just a very big city in this world. It is, in many senses, the iconic city. It represents Western Democracy. As part of the plan the NYPD is creating a huge buffer zone, working with cops in a 50-mile radius of the city. Officials in New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Long Island are given radiation detectors to stop terrorists as far away from New York City as possible. Police also plan to track every vehicle that enters Manhattan. "We're going to be adding cameras as we go forward," NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said. That part of that plan calls for photographing and scanning license plates of cars and trucks at all bridges and tunnels. Even small ones like the Willis Avenue Bridge will also be used to detect radiation. "I don't think it's hyperbole to call this Big Brotherish," said Christopher Dunn of the New York Civil Liberties Union. "The New York City Police Department is creating a huge computer database of the movement of everyone in a vehicle in Manhattan."
