General Strike Paralyzes Italy


The biggest Italian labor federation's call for a one-day general strike has brought transportation to a standstill and created traffic across Italy's major cities.

The nationwide strike on Friday was called by CGIL to protest Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's tax reform that is widely seen to unfairly affect salaried workers, AP reported.

Public transport was disrupted in the morning and air traffic was interrupted by stoppages scheduled to last for four hours in the middle of the day.'
