EU Hits Britain with £1 Billion Fines
Britain is to be hit with punitive European Union fines of up to £1billion for alleged misuse of Brussels funds, it emerged last night.
European Commission chiefs imposed so-called “financial corrections” totalling £398million on the UK after criticising Whitehall’s use of EU subsidies, the Treasury confirmed.
And officials admitted a further £601million had been set aside to pay expected further EU penalties.'
