But all of the sudden, the importance of title insurance is becoming crystal-clear. In recent weeks, big lenders like GMAC Mortgage, JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America have halted many or all of their foreclosure proceedings in the wake of allegations of sloppiness, shortcuts or worse. And a potential nightmare situation has emerged that has spooked not only homeowners but lawyers, title insurance companies and their investors.
What would happen if scores of people who had lost their homes to foreclosure somehow persuaded a judge to overturn the proceedings? Could they somehow win back the rights to their homes, free and clear of any mortgage? But they may not be able to simply move back into their home at that point. Banks, after all, have turned around and sold some of those foreclosed homes to nice young families reaching out for a bit of the American dream. Would they simply be put out on the street? And then what?'

Untested Type of Fluoride Used in the Overwhelming Majority of U.S. Water Supplies
In a recent article in the journal NeuroToxicology, a research team led by Roger D. Masters, Dartmouth College Research Professor and Nelson A. Rockefeller Professor of Government Emeritus, reports evidence that public drinking water treated with sodium silicofluoride or fluosilicic acid, known as silicofluorides (SiFs), is linked to higher uptake of lead in children.
Sodium fluoride, first added to public drinking water in 1945, is now used in less than 10% of fluoridation systems nationwide, according to the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) 1992 Fluoridation Census. Instead, SiF's are now used to treat drinking water delivered to 140 million people. While sodium fluoride was tested on animals and approved for human consumption, the same cannot be said for SiFs.'

Tsunami-like Floods Race to NE Australia
Tsunami-like flash floods raced toward Australia's third-largest city of Brisbane on Tuesday, prompting evacuations of thousands of residents from its outskirts, Reuters reported on Tuesday.
After a surging two-meter wall of water killed at least eight people overnight in the town of Toowoomba in west Brisbane, flood warning was issued for the financial district in Brisbane.
Australian authorities have also predicted that the death toll is likely to climb. Nearly 70 people have been reported missing after water gushed through Toowoomba.'

Britain's student leaders, union activists and anti-cuts campaigners are keeping up their protest against the increase in university tuition fees, education cuts and cuts to public spending.
More than 100 students marched in Peterborough Saturday against the tuition fees rise.
Young people from college and schools in the city took part in the protest outside Peterborough Town Hall.
Leaders of the Peterborough Trade Union Council and the Peterborough Pensioners Association joined the demonstration and pledged their support to keep up campaigns against cuts.'

Britain Reinforces Security Amid Threats
The security threat level for London's transport system including airports, train and subway stations, ports and roads has risen from substantial to severe, turning the city to a blockhouse rather than a secure place to live in freely, British media reported.
"The threat level to the UK is at severe, which means that an attack is highly likely, and has been since January 2010," said the Metropolitan Police in a statement.
"We will police accordingly and use a range of covert and overt tactics which remain under constant review. Trial Against Environmental Acitivists Dropped After Undercover Met Police Officer Switches Sides
The campaigners had been accused of conspiring to shut down a power station, but the trial collapsed after Pc Mark Kennedy, who had infiltrated the group, indicated he would give evidence to support them in court, it has been reported.

Cameron Backtracks on Petrol Price Cut Pledge (Now There's a Suprise)
The cost of petrol is currently at record levels. Last week, Mr Cameron hinted that the “fair fuel stabiliser”, a proposal to limit the price of petrol that was part of the Tory manifesto, could be revived. But the Prime Minister warned motorists yesterday not to raise their hopes.
He said he had asked the Treasury to study the plan but cautioned that it was a “difficult issue”.

Portugal's PM Rejects Bailout Plan
Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates on Sunday rejected speculation over the need for a euro rescue fund bailout after German magazine Spiegel reported at the weekend that France and Germany were urging the country to apply for the eurozone aid.
Socrates emphasized that his country is achieving better results with income as well as expenditure, giving assurances that Portugal would meet its 2010 budget targets.

Congresswoman Shot, Six Killed in Arizona
US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona has been shot in the head outside a grocery store in Tucson and six people have been killed in the shooting incident.
On Saturday, up to 20 continuous shots were heard at the scene of the incident, where Giffords was greeting her constituents, AP reported.
The surgeon who operated on Giffords said he was "optimistic" the Democratic Congresswoman would recover.
Six people were killed in the incident and 18 were injured.'
