Two weeks ago I reported on what is potentially the greatest global warming wheeze of all – a scheme to claim $60 billion in carbon credits for keeping intact a large chunk of the Amazon rainforest which is not under any threat, The architects of this imaginative project are the environmental campaigners of the WWF and their close ally the Woods Hole Research Center in Massachusetts.
Last week a letter to this newspaper from Woods Hole's CEO, William Brown, averred that it was not, as I had said, an "environmental advocacy group" but a "widely respected scientific institution". This is precisely the claim which has been dismissed by, among others, the renowned atmospheric physicist Professor Richard Lindzen, who has more than once emphasised that the Woods Hole Research Center is "an environmental advocacy center, not to be confused with the far better known Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution", a genuinely respected scientific body.'

Obama Vows to Battle Holcaust Denial
US President Barack Obama spoke at a Holocaust Remembrance Day event at the US Capitol Thursday, and said he was committed to battling those who deny the atrocities of World War II.
"To this day, there are those who insist the Holocaust never happened, who perpetrate every form of intolerance," the president said. "We have an opportunity as well as an obligation to confront these scourges… That is my commitment as president."

Victory in the first skirmish of what I expect will be a long battle - but who knows? It might be all over by Christmas!
After a three-month delay while they considered their position, a letter from HMRC tells me that I do not need to send in Income Tax Self Assessment forms and they have canceled all penalties. They had previously told me that I must pay a penalty unless I have a reasonable excuse for not submitting the forms. This was a legal requirement that must be met. They have now simply canceled the penalty without any evidence of my income.
The only reason I have offered for not sending in the forms is that I dispute their authority in Shetland. It seems I am no longer required to submit these forms, so I assume they must have come round to my point of view.
It seems that bending the law a little and letting me off the penalty is preferable to having to explain how they get their purported authority, which is what will happen if they continue to pursue me.

Big Pharma Fixes Nobel Prize?
The joint winner of the 2008 Nobel Prize for Medicine, Harald zur Hausen, was recognised for his work on the human papilloma virus (HPV), which can lead to cervical cancer.
London-based pharmaceuticals giant AstraZeneca stands to make money from vaccines against HPV because it owns patents on their ingredients.
Bo Angelin, a member of the Nobel Committee, sits on the AstraZeneca board, and Bertil Friedholm, representative of the Nobel Committee at the Karolinska Institutet, reportedly held consulting contracts with the company in 2006.
AstraZeneca also recently begun sponsoring the Nobel website and pro-motional subsidiary, the Times reports.

Brown In Knife Crime Spin Row
Gordon Brown has been rebuked by the statistics watchdog for his "irregular and selective" use of knife crime figures.
Sir Michael Scholar, head of the UK Statistics Authority, protested that figures put out on Thursday had not been checked and warned that putting them out prematurely was "corrosive of public trust".
Both the Prime Minister and Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary, trumpeted a report apparently showing stabbings had fallen by a quarter in areas where police stepped up searches of young people.

Merck's Goal: "One Less" Gardasil Marketing Problem
Merck is trying to market its cervical cancer vaccine Gardasil to women who may not benefit from it after U.S. sales shrank in July and August, according to a Bloomberg article
As pointed out by Jim Edwards over at Bnet "Merck is simply adjusting its strategy to the inevitable grind of numbers: As more girls get the shot, its remaining market declines — and thus Merck must target increasingly marginally profitable populations"
Even though 75% of the most effective market for Gardasil (teenage girls from 13 to 17 years old) has not received a dose of Gardasil, Merck would rather focus on women ages 19 to 26, who have been less likely to get the shots than try to go after teenagers.
"We see tremendous opportunity," said Bev Lybrand, Merck's senior vice president of vaccines. "We have a number of programs under way to get after these women."
Gardasil has difficulties that marketing must overcome. These include price, effectiveness, and possible dangerous side effects (the CDC said it has received reports of 21 deaths and almost 10,000 side effects in women following vaccination). The latter is an especially difficult hurdle if you have to target mothers of teenage girls rather than the girls themselves -- it's taboo and even illegal in some cases to market to minors under the age of 18. For example, Merck cannot do direct mail or email marketing to teenagers by collecting names and postal/email addresses. That needs parental permissions.

David Davis: The Tory Backbencher Who Isn’t Sitting Back
The Conservatives were surging ahead in the opinion polls and he was virtually assured one of the highest offices of Government.
David Cameron was shocked when he resigned to draw attention to civil liberties, but Mr Davis insists he has no regrets.
Many in the Conservatives hoped that Mr Davis would become an influential figure on the backbenches who could speak up for the right-wing of the party on matters such as tax and education. He looks set not to disappoint.
Last week, in one of his first major interviews since being re-elected to Parliament, Mr Davis revealed that he has been hard at work over the summer considering some of the major issues threatening Britain and politicians.

Cost of £1bn energy relief plan 'will end up on household bills'
Gordon Brown faces a double revolt despite announcing a £1 billion package yesterday to help struggling households to cope with soaring energy prices.
The Prime Minister said that energy companies and generators had agreed to stump up £910 million to pay for all low-income and pensioner families to get free loft and cavity insulation, with six million others offered half-price deals. The measures were a “better alternative” to a windfall tax.
Families could save up to £400 a year from the help offered, ministers said. Mr Brown confirmed that the payments from the companies would be authorised by legislation to be introduced into the Commons shortly, insisting that he did not expect the cost to be passed on to the consumer.
That aspiration was immediately called into question when industry figures suggested that part of the bill always ended up with the customer.

Rising Energy Costs Have netted the Government £1 Billion
And it's all mine !Rising fuel costs have provided the Government with a windfall of as much as £1 billion from a scheme designed to promote renewable energy, it has been reported.
The revelation comes as Prime Minister Gordon Brown comes under pressure from Labour backbenchers to impose a windfall tax on "excessive" profits made by the energy companies.
Ministers are due in the coming week to unveil a package of measures to help consumers deal with soaring fuel prices, but efforts to persuade the power giants voluntarily to fund a cash handout to vulnerable households this winter appear to have come to nothing.
There have been calls for the money received by the Treasury from the Non-Fossil Fuel Obligation scheme to be used to help families with energy efficiency measures such as home insulation.

How Millions Of Tons Of Household Rubbish Collected For Recycling Disappears Without A Trace
'Millions of tons of rubbish carefully sorted into recycling bins by householders may never actually be recycled, town hall chiefs admitted.
Many of the council bosses who impose compulsory recycling regimes on their residents have no idea what happens to the refuse after the dustcarts have collected it.
They simply hand it over to contractors who never reveal where it goes and how it is disposed of.
The admission by leaders of the Local Government Association, the umbrella body for councils, confirmed longstanding suspicions of critics, and brought protests from campaigners and pressure groups who have opposed the spread of fortnightly rubbish collections in the name of enforcing recycling and saving the environment.
Doretta Cocks, of the Campaign for Weekly Waste Collection, said: 'This is a dreadful admission. People believe that whatever they put in their recycling bins is recycled - but in reality the councils can't cope.
'They do not abide by their own rules.'
The LGA said that councils do not have powers to force contractors who take away waste to say where it is going. '

David Davis, The Sham Election and His Supporting Cronies
When David Davis first resigned from his post in the shadow cabinet and announced that he would be standing for re election on the basis of Protecting our civil liberties i thought 'Nice one David' At least there is one who is prepared to stand up and fight for our freedoms and liberties.
How wrong i was!!
When my moment of euphoria had subsided i asked myself many questions
Why didnt he stand and fight his position championing our freedoms from his powerful position in the shadow cabinet??
Were there alterior motives for his shock resignation and subsequent campaign for relection??
I then decided to follow the campaign closely and see what unfolded.
What unfolded was a very closely controlled campaign full of sleaze and restriction and people purporting to be coming to support his stance on civil liberties when they were clearly people whose public face belies contrary facts and motives.
There was NO public debate on the issues by Davis in this campaign .Quite the opposite in fact. Any debate that Davis was involved in was controlled, private and only preselected sheep invited. It was interesting to see that both David Icke who is an expert on BIG BROTHER with 2o yrs research and knowledge was banned from the meeting with Davis and SIR Bob Geldof. The Green party were also not allowed in his meetings.
They often say that you can tell what someone is like by the company they keep.
How very true in this election!
Lets take a look at some of the company that Davis kept in this campaign.

and three time attendee of the Bilderberg Group. At this years Bilderberg meeting in Chantilly Virginia there was an open forum discussion in the microchipping of the human population and Osbourne was there.

But it has become clear that this was an election which was completely staged and it is interesting to note that since the end of the election and now he is back in Westminster The David Davis Campaign for Freedom has come to a grinding halt.
His David Davis For Freedom website has not had a single amount of input since his re election. Surely if his intentions had been genuine this website would be the perfect vehicle to carry forward his campaign against the BIG BROTHER State.
