Majority of Nobel Jury 'Objected to Obama Prize'

Three of the five members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee had objections to the Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to US President Barack Obama, the Norwegian tabloid Verdens Gang (VG) reported Thursday.

"VG has spoken to a number of sources who confirmed the impression that a majority of the Nobel committee, at first, had not decided to give the peace prize to Barack Obama," the newspaper said.

Obama Nominated For Nobel peace Prize Less Than Two Weeks After His Inauguration


How is it possible that Obama is nominated and wins a Nobel Peace Prize, when he only became President, just two weeks before the nomination deadline. Yes, you read that right!
Just shy of TWO weeks (12 days to be exact) before the nominations deadline, Obama becomes President.

Barack Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize


Barack Obama sensationally won the Nobel Peace Prize today after just nine months in the White House in recognition of his efforts to return America to a multilateralist foreign policy.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee said it was honouring the 48-year-old President for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples". It said that it had attached "special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons".( Except the US and Israeli ones!!!)

Big Pharma Fixes Nobel Prize?

The joint winner of the 2008 Nobel Prize for Medicine, Harald zur Hausen, was recognised for his work on the human papilloma virus (HPV), which can lead to cervical cancer.

London-based pharmaceuticals giant AstraZeneca stands to make money from vaccines against HPV because it owns patents on their ingredients.

Bo Angelin, a member of the Nobel Committee, sits on the AstraZeneca board, and Bertil Friedholm, representative of the Nobel Committee at the Karolinska Institutet, reportedly held consulting contracts with the company in 2006.

AstraZeneca also recently begun sponsoring the Nobel website and pro-motional subsidiary, the Times reports.
