California Official's $800,000 Salary in City of 38,000 Triggers Protests

Hundreds of residents of one of the poorest municipalities in Los Angeles County shouted in protest last night as tensions rose over a report that the city’s manager earns an annual salary of almost $800,000.

An overflow crowd packed a City Council meeting in Bell, a mostly Hispanic city of 38,000 about 10 miles (16 kilometers) southeast of Los Angeles, to call for the resignation of Mayor Oscar Hernandez and other city officials. 1. Yet more so called "first world" corruption and total GREED as per usual.

In a place where people are homeless, have nowhere to live, have no job and are living hand to mouth, some people are overpaid and probably sitting in their air-conditioned offices, drinking cups of tea.

My suggestion is sack them and employ someone who is prepared to be paid much less and use the money saved to provide much needed services for the people of the city.

I mean, don't some people have a conscience? People are so brazen, they don't even feel guilty when they are blatantly stealing. What could they possibly be doing for the city to warrant a salary of $800,000 and then $100,000 for part-time work? That's just greedy!

In the meantime, some people are getting paid peanuts ($7-$8/hr)to do all the frontline work while some greedy guy sits around doing absolutely nothing.
