A Tale of Spines, Surgeons and Skullduggery in British Colombia by Pandora Jones

Ever heard anybody say how the Workers Compensation Board often tells injured people that they aren’t covered because of a "pre-existing condition"? If you haven’t, get your head out of the sand!Let’s talk about the Workers Compensation Board. For many years, WCB files on claimants were kept secret. Ever applied for WCB benefits after a work injury? They make you see one of "their" doctors, on whose opinion their judgement on you is based. That’s the first scam. These doctors are well paid whether or not they adjudge that your injury is work-related. The second scam is that nobody can (or rather, could) see your file except the doctor and the WCB, along with the fact that the WCB, in true corporate style, operates just like a commercial insurance company. And what do commercial insurance companies do? They employ "adjusters", whose sole job is to find reasons to not pay out, or to pay out as little as possible. Oh, never mind that it’s your tax dollars at work or that your current government might boast about accountability. If you believe any of that, I’ve got a bridge for sale…
