The clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinian fighters took place east of the town of Khan Yunis in the Palestinian stretch of land on Friday, a Press TV correspondent reported.

A mortar exploded "accidentally" and killed one soldier and injured four others when Palestinian fighters opened fire along the Gaza border, an Israeli army spokesman said.

Witnesses say Israeli forces fired tank shells and rockets during the 20-minute exchange of fire. Moreover, Israeli warplanes staged airstrikes in the area.'
