US Stocks Sink Amid Bleak News


US stocks have plunged amid mixed fears over tensions on the Korean Peninsula, Europe's mounting debt problems and the Federal Reserve's bleak growth forecasts.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost more than 142 points at closing on Tuesday while the Nasdaq composite index was down 37 points. The S&P 500 also fell 17 points to 1,181, CNN reported.

The drop came on the heels of an exchange of artillery fire along the disputed sea border between the two Koreas early on Tuesday, killing two South Korean soldiers and wounding several civilians.'
