Portuguese to Strike Against Budget Bill
Portuguese unions are set to stage a 24-hour general strike against their government's severe austerity measures as the country remains bogged down in debt problems and high unemployment.
Portugal's largest union, CGTP, and the General Union of Workers have jointly called on the country's trade unions to stage a massive walkout on Wednesday in a move which is expected to create numerous flight disruptions and cancellations at all major airports throughout the country, Reuters reported.
The general strike would be the first such industrial action since 2007 and the first joint protest by the two main umbrella unions in almost 22 years.'
