China Calls US-S Korea Drill Provocative


China says the upcoming joint US-South Korea military drill will not help defuse tensions in the Korean Peninsula and has expressed opposition to any provocative behavior in the region.

As Washington and Seoul prepare for joint naval exercises in the Yellow Sea in response to the latest exchange of artillery between the North and the South, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao called on "all relevant parties to exercise the utmost restraint."

In a meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Moscow on Wednesday, Wen said, "The international community should do more work to ease the tension of the situation," The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.'
