Now Water Will Cost More in the Summer

Water is set to cost more during the summer following the introduction of a controversial seasonal tariff, it emerged yesterday.

Households in Sussex, Kent, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight will be the first to face the price hikes between June and September after Southern Water announced new rates for later this year.

Water watchdog OFWAT confirmed at least three other suppliers were also looking at seasonal tariffs as a way of encouraging people to use less water to prevent shortages.

But consumer groups raised concerns over the impact of the charges on families with low incomes and large households.'
