Anti-war Protester Brian Haw Arrested as Police Clear Parliament Square Ahead of Queen's Speech

Anti-war protester Brian Haw was arrested today as police carried out security sweeps ahead of the Queen's Speech. Mr Haw was seen being handcuffed by police as they cleared the area outside the Houses of Parliament before the monarch's visit this afternoon.

He and other peace campaigners have been camping there and maintaining a 24-hour peace vigil.

Police with sniffer dogs moved in this morning to search the ragtag collection of tents in what Scotland Yard said was a 'standard' security operation.

Mr Haw, who was wearing a grubby T-shirt declaring 'IRAQ 2,000,000 DEAD, 4,000,000 FLED, was allegedly trying to stop them when he was arrested.'

British Government Promises Israeli Official He Won't Be Arrested During Visit

After receiving a letter from the British Foreign Ministry promising that he wouldn't be arrested for war crimes while in England, Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon arrived in London on Monday.

He is the first Israeli official to visit Britain since a British judge issued an edict declaring that Israeli officials would be subject to 'universal jurisdiction' laws requiring their arrests and trial for war crimes. The ruling included an arrest warrant for Israeli Foreign Minister, Tzipi Livni.'

Fraud Inquiry Into £100m Hole in London Development Agency’s Olympic Accounts

Forensic accountants are investigating irregularities at the London Development Agency after discovering a £100 million hole in its 2012 Olympics accounts, The Times has learnt.

A team from KPMG has been called in to find the source of the discrepancy, which was unearthed during a routine audit.

Two senior members of staff at the agency, which is the Mayor of London’s economic and business unit, have been suspended, although there is no evidence of wrongdoing. Gareth Blacker, who was in charge of buying the land on the Olympic park under the biggest and most controversial forced relocation conducted in Britain, is on indefinite leave along with his accountant.
