Foreign Workers Win Olympic Jobs: 1 in 3 Employed at Key 2012 Site is From Abroad

Nearly a third of workers at the Olympic site in London are foreigners, official figures reveal.

They show that just 63 per cent of the 3,315 workers on the Olympic Park are British and eight per cent are Irish. The remaining 29 per cent are foreign workers, half of whom hail from non-EU countries.

The Olympic Delivery Authority has pledged to employ local people, creating a skills legacy for East London in line with Gordon Brown's promise of 'British jobs for British workers'.

But yesterday contractors on the £9.3billion project said that the sudden downturn meant they were having to move existing workers to the 2012 site to prevent redundancies, and so had been unable to hire local workers.

But the Mail has learnt that Olympic jobs offering salaries of up to £65,000 are currently being advertised abroad to foreign workers.
