The request by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to the United Nations Human Rights Council last year to postpone the vote on the Goldstone report followed a particularly tense meeting with the head of the Shin Bet security service, Haaretz has learned. At the October meeting in Ramallah, Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin told Abbas that if he did not ask for a deferral of the vote on the critical report on last year's military operation, Israel would turn the West Bank into a "second Gaza".'

Mahmoud Abbas Convinced Israel To Continue Strike On Gaza
Palestinian news sources have described that the existence of a video was truly behind the Palestinian Authority’s decision to withdraw support for the draft resolution (i.e Goldstone Report) from the UN Human Rights Council on violations in the recent Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
The news sources said that a meeting took place in Washington recently, between the representatives of the Palestinian Authority and Israeli delegation on the situation of the report, sources pointed out that representatives initially rejected the Israeli request not to pass on the report, and kept their position, until the Colonel Eli Avraham threatened to display a video file of a dialogue which took place between Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak in the presence of the former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.
According to the same sources, Abbas appeared in the video trying to persuade Barack to continue the war on Gaza.

Abbas Helps Israel Bury its Crimes in Gaza
Just when it seemed that the Ramallah Palestinian Authority (PA) and its leader Mahmoud Abbas could not sink any lower in their complicity with Israel's occupation of the West Bank and the murderous blockade of Gaza, Ramallah has dealt a further stunning blow to the Palestinian people.
The Abbas delegation to the United Nations in Geneva (officially representing the moribund Palestine Liberation Organization) abandoned a resolution requesting the Human Rights Council to forward Judge Richard Goldstone's report on war crimes in Gaza to the UN Security Council for further action. Although the PA acted under US pressure, there are strong indications that the commercial interests of Palestinian and Gulf businessmen closely linked to Abbas also played a part.

Mahmoud Abbas Doing What He Does Best: Selling Palestine Down The Potomac River
The article also noted Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had dropped the pre-condition of a settlement construction halt under US pressure. In exchange for the pressure for easing Abbas’ demand on settlements, the Israeli daily reported, US President Barack Obama promised Abbas that the Palestinian viewpoint will be taken into consideration in forming the “framework” for the negotiations.
