Karl Rove: I'm Proud of Using Waterboarding to Break Terrorists

George W Bush's top political adviser has said he was 'proud' of controversial techniques such as waterboarding, which he claimed broke the will of terrorist.
Karl Rove - known as the former president's 'brain' - said he did not believe that the interrogation method amounted to torture.
In an interview with the BBC, he claimed that waterboarding - which simulates drowning - had helped prevent terrorist attacks.'

UK Police Face Waterboarding Controversy

The Scotland Yard has opened an investigation into the conduct of six officers accused of waterboarding drug suspects after arresting them last year.

The police have confirmed that the officers face "serious allegations" in connection with arrests of five suspects in the north London borough of Enfield on November 4, 2008.

London's police force did not provide details of the misconduct. "Whilst the investigation is on-going it is not appropriate to make assumptions," it said in a statement.

Media outlets, however, have reported that in addition to waterboarding, the officers are alleged to have repeatedly ducked the suspects' heads in buckets of water.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed Was Waterboarded 183 times in a Month

According to the May 30, 2005 Bradbury memo, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was waterboarded 183 times in March 2003 and Abu Zubaydah was waterboarded 83 times in August 2002.

Note, the information comes from the CIA IG report which, in the case of Abu Zubaydah, is based on having viewed the torture tapes as well as other materials. So this is presumably a number that was once backed up by video evidence.
