Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper may suspend Parliament to stave off his ouster next week by an opposition coalition that he warned would be beholden to Quebec separatists and push “socialist economics.”
The main opposition Liberal Party agreed two days ago to form a coalition with the New Democratic Party that would be backed by the separatist Bloc Quebecois during key votes. The alliance may replace Harper’s Conservative Party government as early as next week. Harper, 49, said yesterday he’ll fight the move, without ruling out the possibility of suspending the legislature.
