Private security firms ravaging Iraq

Iraq's Defense Ministry spokesman Lt. Gen. Mohammad al-Askari says western security firms are behind the upsurge of violence in his country.

Al-Askari said the security firms are working on behalf of intelligence agencies in some countries that see Iraq's stability as being against their strategic interests.

I wonder if Patrick Mercer MP and his cronies in The Olive Group are involved, My bet is that they are.

  1. Yes, I also wonder if the not so vaunted MP is involved. I honestly believe the man is serially disloyal and I wonder if when he said "Now we are going back to the battles our fathers and grandfathers experienced." it gladden the tiny hearts of some of the security firms, perhaps some of the people he knows?

I recall on the David Lindsay blog it was said "Yesterday, Patrick Mercer rejoiced to inform a debate in Westminster Hall that the activities of Iran were making conditions for British servicepersons in Iraq and Afghanistan "bloody, hot and lethal". Apparently Mr Mercer rubbed shoulders with intelligence types in Northern Ireland and someone alleged that they got it confirmed that Patrick Mercer was a leading officer in the Force Research Unit (FRU).and he was in South Armagh and was at the front of things. What a short step it would be for someone like that to become involved not that Mr Mercer would ever vote for war while working for security firms so to make profit, perish the thought.

Apparently the new statesman said that Mr Mercer turns off his mobile during meetings instead of turning it to silent. Mercer fears portable telephones may be used to bug owners. It's unclear who Mercer fears most: spooks or Citizen Dave. Patrick Mercer troubling to turn his mobile off for fear someone may listen to his conversation and what could a backbencher MP possibly have to hide?

I’m afraid that Patrick Mercer is no ordinary run-of-the-mill MP and his agenda, well I think that is a big secret but I doubt it includes the misguided people of Newark; they seem to be just a means to an end.

  3. Do you think there is a connection between Mercer and Colonel Tim Spicer, he was also with the British army in Northern Ireland. In 2002, Spicer established Aegis Defence Services and in October 2004, Aegis received a $293 million three-year contract in Iraq outsourcing, with other things, intelligence for the U.S. Army.

It seems to me that Mercer said he believed Hussein had weapons of mass destruction but he doubted that Hussein had the capability to deliver them to the UK, and he doubted that there were links between Iraq and terrorists.

Very good reasons not to vote for war.

Then he seemed to change his mind and perhaps to the delight of security firms proclaimed that Hussein needs to be pushed to the wire militarily, if we want peace, we must vote for war, said Mr Mercer.

According to your article such militarily action can be most profitable so it’s not peace but money that comes from a vote for war along with the threat of terrorist attack on the UK for the next 50 years.

Why do you think Patrick Mercer apparently changed his mind from a position of peace to one of war?
