Palestinians Face More Ethnic Cleansing

The Israeli military has issued a new ruling that would allow the mass deportation of Palestinians from the occupied West Bank.

According to the Israeli media, the new order considers anyone caught in the West Bank who does not hold an Israeli permit to enter and reside in the area as an "infiltrator."

The order, which is due to come into effect on Tuesday, would automatically turn tens of thousands of Palestinians into criminal offenders liable to be severely punished.

They could face seven years in prison and would also have to pay the cost of their expulsion from the West Bank — most probably to the Gaza Strip.'

Israel Imposes Nine-Day Blockade on West Bank

Israel imposes a 9-day full blockade of the occupied West Bank starting Sunday night, ostensibly as a security measure for the Jewish Passover festival.

The lockdown, on the orders of the Israeli War Minister Ehud Barak, will prevent thousands of Palestinian workers based in the West Bank from reaching their places of work.

The closure will be lifted only after another security assessment following the Passover holiday, the Israeli army said in a statement on Sunday.'

In US, Netanyahu Backs Settlement Activity

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that Jerusalem (al-Quds) is not a settlement, but Israel's capital, defying the international community over the thorny issue of settlement activities.

Netanyahu told participants of the annual conference of American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) — the main pro-Israel lobby in the US — that “Jerusalem is not a settlement. It is our capital.”

Israeli Deputy FM Hints at Ethnic Cleansing Policy

The Israeli deputy foreign minister has suggested that all Arab Israelis should eventually be transferred to a future Palestinian state.

In an interview published in the Arabic-language newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat on Saturday, Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said that Arab Israelis are proud of being Palestinians and thus have nothing to lose "if they decide to go and live within a Palestinian state."

Israel to Raze 200 Palestinian Homes in East Jerusalem

Israeli authorities plan to seal 200 Palestinians homes in East Jerusalem Al-Quds to counter what they call "discriminatory enforcement" against Israeli settlers.

The East Jerusalem Al-Quds Mayor Nir Barkat announced the decision after the State Prosecutor Moshe Lador criticized the municipality's refusal to carry out a Supreme Court order to seal the Jewish-owned Beit Yehonatan building in East Jerusalem Al-Quds.

The building, which houses Israeli settlers, was illegally built in the city's neighborhood of Silwan in 2004.

In a letter written to the prosecutor on Wednesday, Barkat agreed to implement the sealing order but added that he would also act to tear down 200 "illegal" Palestinian homes in the area.'

IOA: 50,000 Palestinian Jerusalemites to Remain Outside Jerusalem

The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) has decided that all Palestinians living outside the separation wall that isolated eastern Jerusalem from the West Bank would not be considered inhabitants of the holy city.

Hebrew daily Ha'aretz quoted an official responsible for eastern Jerusalem affairs in the Israeli-controlled Jerusalem municipality as saying that those people, although owning the blue IDs allowing them residence in Jerusalem, would no longer be considered inhabitants of the city.'

Jerusalem Governor: “Palestinians Facing Ethnic Cleansing in Jerusalem”

Jerusalem governor at the Palestinian Authority, Adnan Al Hesseini, stated Saturday that Jerusalem and its Palestinian natives are subjected to ethnic cleansing and blatant racism as they face expulsion, as Israeli forces continue demolishing their homes, and replacing them with settlers.

In a press release, Al Husseini said that the Jerusalem Municipality waged a war against the Palestinians by issuing orders to demolish their homes, stores, and even by wiping out whole neighborhoods, to replace them later on with more illegal settlement outposts.

"This is an Israeli war against the Palestinians and their land in Jerusalem", he stated, "This is a war that targets the very existence of Arabs and Palestinians in the city, this war targets our history".

The Jerusalem governor demanded the Arab countries to take more serious stances towards the illegal Israeli acts, and added that Jerusalem is the heart and essence of every Palestinian".

"The Palestinian people must defend their land, must counter the Israeli plans, must defend the Arab Jerusalem and its holy sites", he stated.

It is worth mentioning that Al Husseini met on Saturday with dozens of Jordanian pharmacists and physicians visiting the country.

Ethnic Cleansing and Israel

One of the more disturbing developments in the Middle East is a growing consensus among Israelis that it would acceptable to expel—in the words of advocates “transfer”—its Arab citizens to either a yet as unformed Palestinian state or the neighboring countries of Jordan and Egypt.

Such sentiment is hardly new among Israeli extremists, and it has long been advocated by racist Jewish organizations like Kach, the party of the late Rabbi Meir Kahane, as well as groups like the National Union, which doubled its Knesset representation in the last election.

But “transfer” is no longer the exclusive policy of extremists, as it has increasingly become a part of mainstream political dialogue. “My solution for maintaining a Jewish and democratic state of Israel is to have two nation-states with certain concessions and with clear red lines,” Kadima leader and Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni told a group of Tel Aviv high school students last December, “and among other things, I will be able to approach the Palestinian residents of Israel, those whom we call Israeli Arabs, and tell them, ‘ your national solution lies elsewhere.’”
