Terminator-style robots that decide how, when and who to kill are on the horizon, a leading expert has warned.
Noel Sharkey, a professor of artificial intelligence and robotics at Sheffield University, said global action was needed to control their development.
If not, the machines' inability to distinguish friend from foe will lead to massive loss of civilian life.
Wars will also be easier to start.
