Israel takes no notice of calls for accepting a two-state solution with the Palestinians, arguing it sees greater significance in dealing with an "Iranian threat".
As pressure has been building up on Tel Aviv during recent weeks to work toward a two-state peace settlement with the Palestinians, an Israeli official came out to say that making concessions on the issue would threaten Israel's existence.
Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon argued on Sunday that recognizing a Palestinian state would help Tehran with its cause at the expense of Tel Aviv. "Territory given back to the Palestinians would turn into Hamastan," he reasoned.
