Israel's ambassador to the UK has accused the British public of “delegitimizing and demonizing” Israel, saying that they are not aware of Israel's challenges.

Ambassador Ron Prosor told The Times that there was a discrepancy between the British government's treatment of Israel and the position adopted by members of the public, media, and universities.

“Sometimes we feel people from the outside are pointing fingers at us instead of giving us a big hug, which is what we need in this region,” the Israeli envoy said.'

EU Jews Take Stand Against Israel

Thousands of European Jews, including a number of EU parliament members, have signed a petition warning against systematic support for Israeli policies.

The petition, which was slated to be delivered to the European Parliament on Sunday, is signed by more than 3,000 European Jews, including renown French philosophers Bernard-Henri Levy and Alain Finkielkraut.

Daniel Cohn-Bendit, a Greens leader in the European Parliament, was also among the signatories of the petition, the Associated Press reported.'

Israel Restricts Access to Al-Aqsa Mosque

Israel on Monday curbed travel from the West Bank and access to Jerusalem's flashpoint Al-Aqsa mosque compound as Jews began to celebrate Passover holidays amid raised tension with the Palestinians.

Four Israeli rightwing activists were briefly detained when they tried to make their way to the Old City in annexed east Jerusalem with two goats intended for ritual slaughter, police said.

A Passover animal sacrifice near the mosque compound in the Old City would likely have been perceived by Muslims as a challenge to the tense status quo of the site and could have sparked unrest.'

Britain’s Policy on Palestine is Hypocritical, Duplicitous and Mendacious

Last week, a few Palestinian journalists and I had the opportunity to meet with Martin Day, a spokesman of the British government. The meeting, which was hosted by the Arabic Media Internet Network (AMIN), took place in Ramallah. In his introductory remarks, Day gave the impression that the imminent renewal of peace talks between the almost completely helpless Palestinian Authority (PA) and a brazenly insolent Israel, ruled by the most hawkish government in the Jewish states history, will eventually achieve peace and lead to the establishment of a viable Palestinian state. He also lauded the Obama administration, underscoring its towards resolving the enduring Palestinian cause. Day's remarks were received with disbelief and dismay by the small audience of journalists, writers and cameramen who thought that Day either didn't know what he was talking about, or he did know what he was saying but was detached not only from truth but from reality as well.'

Israeli Forces Open Fire on Palestinian Students

Israeli forces open fire on Palestinian students demonstrating near a West Bank checkpoint, injuring seven people on Monday, medics say.

According to a Palestinian security official, three of the seven were wounded by live rounds and the others were hit by rubber bullets, AFP reported.

An official at a nearby hospital confirmed that seven people were wounded, some of them with live rounds, without providing further details.

The security official said the demonstrators, mostly students from nearby Birzeit University, were protesting Israel's settlement works in annexed East Jerusalem.'

'Israel Violates International Law With EU Complicity'

Things are worsening for Israel from moral and legal perspectives. The European Union (EU) is an accomplice of Israel in its proven violations of international law, as it legitimised Israeli actions in the Palestinian occupied territories and provided support to it, according to the findings of the Russel Tribunal on Palestine (RTP), which met in Barcelona March 1-3.

The Tribunal concluded that Israel has committed and continues to commit violations of international law, while the EU and its member states have breached this law and failed to take measures against Israeli violations and identify remedies.'

Israel Approves Plans For New Settlement

Israeli authorities have approved a plan to construct a new settlement on the land across the Green Line in south Jerusalem Al-Quds.

An official for the Israeli advocacy group Ir Amim, which monitors housing issues in Arab neighborhoods, revealed the decision, Ma'an news agency reported on Tuesday.

Ahmad Laban said the regional committee of organizing and building in the Israeli municipality of Al-Quds approved the plan, which still needs to undergo some paperwork before it is finalized.

The project will see 549 housing units in five six-story buildings on 31.25 acres of Palestinian land in the town of Beit Safafa, west of the road that links Al-Quds to Hebron Al-Khalil.'

"The big problem today is Iran," He said in an interview with German television channel, ARD.

The 86-year-old politician who arrived in the German capital of Berlin on an official visit to mark the so-called 'International Holocaust Remembrance Day,' was especially critical of Iran's support for the Islamic resistance movements in the region, namely Hamas and Hezbollah.
