Terreblanche Murder is 'Declaration of War' by Blacks

Members of the far-Right AWB threatened vengeance after he was beaten to death in a dispute with two farm workers over unpaid wages.

Police said he was attacked to the head with a machete and a club in his bed at his farm outside Ventersdorp, North West province, on Saturday night.

Two men, aged 21 and 15, have been charged with murder and will appear in court on Tuesday.

Andre Visagie, the AWB's secretary-general and a leading candidate to succeed Mr Terreblanche as head of the organisation, said the party was planning its response.

"The death of Mr Terreblanche is a declaration of war by the black community of South Africa to the white community that has been killed for ten years on end," he said.'

The Moral Dimension of Things: Why are Political Leaders Lying Most of the Time?

Indeed, when the stench of moral decay becomes overwhelming, bad things inevitably follow. Historically, it can be shown that when the moral environment in a society is deteriorating, problems tend to pile up.

We are presently living in one of those times, characterized by deep and entrenched political corruption, by routine abuse of power and disregard for the rule of law in high places, and by unchecked greed, fraud and deception in the economic sphere. The results are all there to see: Severe and prolonged economic and financial crises, rising social inequalities and social injustice, increasing intolerance toward individual choices, the disregard for environmental decay, the rise of religious absolutism, a return to whimsical wars of aggression (or of pre-emptive wars), to blind terrorism and to the repugnant use of torture, and even to genocide and to blatant war crimes. These are all indicators that our civilization has lost its moral compass.

With all these throwbacks to an unpalatable past, it is not surprising there is a resurgence of interest nowadays for questions of morality and of ethics.'

The Guantánamo 'Suicides': A Camp Delta Sergeant Blows the Whistle

When President Barack Obama took office last year, he promised to "restore the standards of due process and the core constitutional values that have made this country great." Dr Kelly WAS Murdered and There has to Be a New Inquest, Say Six Top Doctors

Six doctors who believe government scientist David Kelly was murdered have launched a ground-breaking legal action to demand the inquest into his death is reopened.

Police Shoot Dead Three-year-old in South Africa

Police in South Africa have allegedly shot dead a three-year-old boy because they mistook a metal pipe he was holding for a gun.

Atlegang Aphane's family, who claimed the officer responsible showed no remorse, questioned whether their son had been the victim of a "shoot to kill" policy encouraged by the government.
The incident comes after a string of deaths of innocent people at the hands of police, raising fears of the reckless use of lethal force reminiscent of the apartheid era.'

Mystery Over British Nuclear Expert's Death Plunge at UN HQ

A British nuclear expert has plunged to his death from the 17th floor of a United Nations HQ, just as top-level talks with Iran began.The 47-year-old official, only identified so far as Timothy H, toppled about 120ft from the UN's building in the Austrian capital yesterday.

He is believed to have been a member of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organisation and was due to take part in the UN-Iran discussions starting today.

Police revealed no further details, beyond saying an autopsy would be held.

Reports suggest no suicide note had been found.

Red Crescent: 'Israeli Army Fired at Our Medics as They Tried to Save the Life of a Wounded Child'

Mo’tasem Awad, in charge of the International Humanitarian Law department at the Red Crescent stated that Israeli soldiers opened fire at Red Crescent medics while they were trying to approach a wounded child who died of his wounds.

The child, Mohammad Riyadh Nayef, 15, from al Jalazoun refugee camp, was shot and seriously wounded on Tuesday after a round of live ammunition hit him in the chest.

As medics tried to approach the child, the army opened fire at them, and a soldier told one of the medics that "the army does not need anybody’s help, we have an ambulance on its way".

How Shell Targeted Nigerian Oil Protestors

Serious questions over Shell Oil's alleged involvement in human rights abuses in Nigeria emerged last night after confidential internal documents and court statements revealed how the energy giant enlisted the help of the country's brutal former military government to deal with protesters.

The documents, seen by the IoS, support allegations that Shell helped to provide Nigerian police and military with logistical support, and aided security sweeps of the oil-rich Niger Delta. Earlier this month Shell agreed to pay $15.5m (£9.6m) in a "humanitarian settlement" on the eve of a highly embarrassing US lawsuit.

One of the allegations was that Shell was complicit in the regime's execution of civilians. The Anglo-Dutch firm denies any wrongdoing and said it settled to help "reconciliation". But the documents contain detailed allegations of the extent to which Shell is said to have co-opted the Nigerian military to protect its interests

German Freed after Murdering Afghans

Germany has discontinued investigating a soldier who killed an Afghan woman and two children last year, citing murder by fright as just cause.

The unnamed staff sergeant from the 350th Military Police Battalion killed the civilians in a hail of bullets on August 28, 2008, when he opened fire at them from behind in the town of Kunduz, reported Spiegel Online last week.

He claimed that he was frightened of being attacked and therefore decided to act preemptively against the Afghans, although the car the family were traveling in had turned round and was moving away from the German checkpoint.

KBR Was Paid $83 Million in Bonuses for Work That Electrocuted US Soldiers

The Department of Defense paid former Halliburton subsidiary KBR more than $80 million in bonuses for contracts to install electrical wiring in Iraq in 2007-2008. The award payment was for the very work that resulted in the electrocution deaths of US soldiers, according to Department of Defense documents revealed today in a Senate hearing. More than $30 million in bonuses were paid months after the death of Sgt. Ryan Maseth, a highly decorated, 24-year-old Green Beret, whose January 2008 electrocution death has been classified by DoD investigators as a “negligent homicide.” Maseth’s death had originally been labeled an “accident.” All of the bonuses were paid to KBR after DoD investigators had officially expressed concerns about the quality of KBR’s electrical work.

Members of Saro-Wiwa's family will take the stand for the first time to give their version of events, among them his brother Owens, who will allege that Brian Anderson, managing director of Shell's Nigerian subsidiary, told him: "It would not be impossible to get charges dropped if protests were called off." Anderson is fighting the action.

Gaza ­ Endless Israeli Atrocities

Today was the end of the world...for hundreds of unarmed civilians, including children. The Israeli military, one of the most powerful military forces on earth, has held the 1.5 million civilians captive within Gaza for years. Like the "dog in the manger," Israel has also deprived these civilians of the most basic necessities of life, such as food and water. Still not satisfied with their under-reported, nearly black-out atrocities against Palestinian civilians; not satisfied with the hunger, fear, malnutrition, misery and slow death Israel has delivered to the Palestinians; not satisfied with the Palestinian homes, lands and orchards Israel has already stolen from rightful Palestinian owners, the Israeli interlopers have now ordered their massive military to bomb Gaza neighborhoods in a ferocious air attack that has reportedly killed hundreds of civilians.

Israel justifies this latest brutality by claiming that they cannot "tolerate" the homemade, sugar-propelled Qassam projectiles fired out of Gaza toward Israeli "settlements" such as Sderot. The fact, however, is that the Qassam projectiles rarely hit anything other than desert sand as was even noted by Israeli Defense Minister, Yaakov Toran. He stated, "We need to remember that Qassams are more a psychological than physical threat."

Sderot is located upon the ashes of the former Palestinian village of Nadj. According to a book by Dr. Walid Khalidi, ("All That Remains: The Palestinian Villages Occupied and Depopulated By Israel in 1948") the Palestinian inhabitants of Nadj were driven out of their village when this village was ethnically cleansed by Israeli settlers in 1948. Nadj is but one of at least 418 Palestinian villages that were ethnically cleansed by Israeli "settlers" who invaded Palestine from other countries and claimed ownership of the country.

Gaza carnage: Obama's Litmus Test

The Israeli bombardment of Gaza Saturday left at least 230 dead and 800 wounded, making it the biggest such atrocity in 60 years of Israel-Palestine conflict.

In an interview with ISNA News Agency in Tehran on Saturday, the head of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Alaeddin Boroujerdi stated that the United Sates and other Western backers of the Zionist entity must be held accountable for the Gaza carnage.

Without their full support the Zionists would lack the effrontery to launch such a large-scale onslaught on defenseless Palestinians, he noted.

Sold As 'Non-lethal,' Tasers Killed 400 Since 2001

They are marketed as non-lethal weapons that allow police to capture suspects or criminals without causing any permanent harm.

Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and businessman Bernard Kerik made millions selling the idea to police departments across the country.

But Tasers have killed more than 400 people since 2001, according to a new study commissioned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

Police departments across Canada began banning use of Tasers by their officers after the report found that Tasers deliver more power than the manufacturer says is possible.
