One of the basic rules of politics is that when all major politicians agree on any given issue, they are - almost always - by definition wrong.
They were all wrong when they supported appeasement in the Thirties, backed British entry to the Exchange Rate Mechanism in 1990, or when the Tories and Labour joined to vote for the disastrous Iraq War.
And this week they are at it again as Nick Clegg, David Cameron and Gordon Brown launch themselves into an unseemly contest about who could be the biggest tax-cutter.
